Details: As they say, “It’s all about the steak” at Rare The Steak House. As opposed to dry aging their steaks like most steakhouses, Rare uses a minimum 21-day wet aging process. The menu features signature cuts like the 48oz Prime Angus Porterhouse for Two and “The Ultimate Cowboy Steak”. The latter is a 26oz Prime Angus Ribchop. But the real star of the menu is their 60oz Tomahawk Ribchop for Two. These fired-to-order steaks are already impressive on their own; but can be further enhanced with optional lobster tail, sea scallops, jumbo shrimp, long hot peppers, and more. Servers can also help patrons pair their meal with the perfect red, white, or sparkling wine by the glass. Further drink options include draft beer, bottled beer, and a curated selection of specialty beers. Rare offers two private dining rooms that are perfect for special events as well as business dinners.
Why I Like it: Rare offers a number of killer apps, including fresh clams “Tarantina Style” with white wine, butter, and seasoning.

Mohawk House

Details: The Mohawk House is a local landmark, celebrating two decades of serving high quality farm-to-table American cuisine. The unique decor and spacious dining hall create a dinner experience that blends individuality and sophistication. Part of what makes the steaks at Mohawk House a cut above the rest is their partnership with Pat LaFrieda. Of course, Pat LaFrieda specializes in dry-aged steaks, artisanal burger patties, and the finest cuts of meat. The menu boasts 8oz Filet Mignon, 14oz NY Strip, 18oz Bone-in Ribeye and a Porterhouse or Tomahawk for Two. Other signature entrees include the Surf & Turf with Filet Mignon and Maine Lobster, and the Organic Brick Chicken “Diablo”. The latter comes with Hot Pepper Jus. Beyond that, they typically serve special scratch-made menus for the holidays.

The Brick House

Where: Wyckoff
Details: The Brick House has been serving top notch steak in Bergen County for more than 50 years. But the building itself actually dates back even further, as far as the 1850s. In fact, it is one of the area’s only remaining examples of Federal Greek Revival architecture. Their signature steak options include T-Bone, Braised Short Ribs, NY Strip, and Grilled Marinated Skirt Steak. But they also have Filet Mignon, baby back ribs, and a number of veal, lamb, and pork dishes.


Franklin Steakhouse and Tavern

Where: Fairfield
Details: Besides loving steak, Franklin Steakhouse is big on calamari. It even has its own menu. The flavors rotate, but favorites over the years include Asian, Balsamico, Buffalo, and Traditional. As for steak, this spot offers signature Prime Steak Burgers with 8oz USDA Prime ground sirloin. They serve popular burgers like “The Franklin Bic Mac” burger, The Jersey burger, and the “Bacon & Egger” burger. Traditional choices include Hibachi steak, short ribs, and the Cowboy Steak.


Red Wolfe Inn

Details: Dinner at the Red Wolfe Inn is a family tradition for many locals in Warren County. Popular steak choices include the 7 oz Filet Mignon and 12 oz Dry Aged New York Strip. Other signature steaks include the massive 34 oz Dry Aged Porterhouse for Two and 20 oz Dry Aged Ribeye. For an even more decadent meal, any steak dish can be enhanced with a lobster tail. In addition, their steak entrees pair perfectly with any mix of available sides, from Angry Broccoli to Roasted Brussels Sprouts. But save room for desserts like their signature Cheesecake Lollipop Tree.

Details: Some folks don’t even make it to the steaks at Char, that’s how good the appetizers are. Popular picks include the Lamb Lollipops, Shisito Peppers, and Maple Glazed Bacon Slab. Those that still have room for dinner can pair their steak with one of four savory sauces: Au poivre, Bearnaise, Bordelaise, or the classic Char steak sauce. If possible, saving room for dessert will make the meal an unforgettable experience. In particular, ask about their Cookie Jar Sundae.


The Clinton House

Details: With roots dating back to 1743, The Clinton House is the most historic spot on our list. Their bar menu and Burger Wine Pairings offer two distinct ways to combine food and drinks. KC Prime

Where: Lawrenceville
Details: Stylish, contemporary design is on the menu at KC Prime (in addition to the steaks, of course). Their options include starters, salads, sandwiches, entrees, sides, and more. In particular, popular appetizers include the Truffled KC Fries and the Clams Casino. Likewise, signature entrees include their Barbecue Ribs (half or full rack) and Beef Teriyaki Skewers with jasmine rice. They serve steak cuts such as NY Strip, Prime Delmonico, Filet Mignon, and Steak Frites.

Details: Roots offers a classic, New York steakhouse vibe. The meat they serve is USDA aged center cuts of prime beef from a curated selection of ranches out west. Meanwhile, The Black Eye is a 14 oz NY Strip Steak with blackening season and house-roasted sunrise peppers. The Karate Chop is a 12 oz coriander crusted bone-in pork chop with pineapple soy glaze. Finally, Rosemary’s Strip is a rosemary and garlic marinated 12 oz NY strip in cabernet sauce. Other menu options include seafood towers, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and bar bites. We recommend the Lobster Poutine Fries as a starter.

Short Rib over Wild Mushroom Risotto

Where: 10 24th Ave, Seaside Park
Details: Most patrons would never suspect Chef Mike’s ABG of being a go-to spot for steak. But the popular seafood restaurant is no slouch when it comes to preparing their signature Filet Mignon dishes. Regulars know that both the Grilled 8 Ounce Filet Mignon and Peppered Filet Mignon Medallions are out of this world. Chef Mike pairs the former with crispy Yukon gold potatoes and asparagus. Likewise, the latter comes with lump crab blue cheese cream sauce, buttered mashed potatoes, and spinach. But since no trip to Chef Mike’s ABG is complete without seafood, the marquee dish is their Reef And Beef. This play on Surf n Turf combines their 8oz filet Mignon with a 6oz lobster tail for the ultimate entree. The restaurant finishes the dish with crispy Yukon gold potatoes and asparagus. Plan to visit on a warm spring or summer day and enjoy sunset and ocean views from their outdoor dining.

The Butcher’s Steakhouse

Where: Allenhurst
Details: The Butcher’s Steakhouse is a kosher steakhouse that also features Middle Eastern cuisine. They operate under the strict supervision of the Jersey Shore Orthodox Rabbinate. However, they are also Glatt Kosher as well. In addition, the family-owned business operates several butcher shops throughout New York and New Jersey. Of course, this allows them to supply their steakhouse with daily, fresh (never frozen) deliveries of meat and poultry.


Danny’s

Where: Red Bank
Details: Danny’s has been around for over a century. Previous iterations include a firehouse, bakery, and Italian restaurant, but they’re now known as a premier steakhouse. In fact, prior to pivoting to steak, owner Danny Murphy spent a year just researching the beef industry. Similarly, he researched both seafood and sushi before integrating them into the menu. Danny’s signature steaks include the Chateaubriand, 38 oz Porterhouse, and 14 oz Grass Fed Angus Ribeye.


The Old Homestead

Where: Atlantic City
Details: The Old Homestead in Atlantic City is inside the Borgata and an offshoot of the iconic NYC steakhouse. Their popular steaks are made using domestically-raised, hand-massaged Wagyu beef. The menu mixes meat and seafood, with fan favorite starters such as Rock Shrimp Tempura. Signature steak cuts include Center Cut Sirloin, Prime Rib on the Bone, and Gotham Rib Steak. Details: Aside from great steaks, Creekside Inn is a hotspot for events and entertainment. To accommodate NJ’s ABC laws (Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control), they also hold a Club License. This allows them to serve alcohol to members (membership is free and does not expire). Live music at least three nights a week and Thursday Night Trivia are all part of the fun as well. Dakota Prime

Where: Vineland
Details: Dakota Prime specializes in both steak and sushi, and is tucked away inside a Vineland hotel. (The Ramada by Wyndham.) The vibe is relaxing, but the interior is stylish, making Dakota Prime perfect for both date nights or business dinners. They use center-cut Black Angus beef for their steaks, and season them with a house rub. One of their most popular cuts is the 16 oz Dry Aged Ribeye, which pairs wonderfully with their wine selections.


The Franklinville Inn

Where: Franklinville
Details: The Franklinville Inn combines historic charm with decadent meals. In fact, the area dates back to the late 1700s. The town used to be a traveler’s village with a hotel, sawmill, general stores, churches, and a few small homes.
