Porter Offers Eclectic Menu As Modern American Gastropub

Executive Chef Christopher Lim and Executive Pastry Chef Tara Glick are co-chefs and partners of the new restaurant, Porter. The 4,000-square foot modern American gastropub is on the ground level of Riverhouse11; a luxury residential complex at Port Imperial in Weehawken. With a dining area, a large bar, and an outdoor patio, there are plenty of seating options.

The design of Porter comes from Callison RTKL. “The cozy, open dining room features live edge wood tables and a view of the kitchen; where you can see a wood-burning pizza oven from Italy, as well as a charcoal burning Spanish grill,” Lim says. Meanwhile, buoy-inspired spherical lighting, nautical ropes, steel shelving, and teal-colored walls accent the space.

Porter Main Dining Area

Porter seats up to 45 guests in the main dining room, 55 in the bar area, and 45 outdoors; the patio offers heat lamps during the colder months, however outdoor seating is not available this season.

Porter Menu Highlights

The menu features seasonal, shareable small plates, coal-fired entrees, wood-fired pizzas, and homemade desserts. Small plate options include prosciutto with gnocco frito, parmiagiano reggiano, and quince. Their “Mott Street” pizza comes with sausage, peperonata, cherry peppers, provolone, and aged mozzarella. Meanwhile, one signature entree is duck breast served with braised red cabbage, persimmon, and star anise.

But there’s also plenty of dessert choices. For instance, the pumpkin cheesecake is made with candied cranberries and pepita brittle. Meanwhile, the tiramisu affogato comes with zabaglione ice cream and espresso pour-over. “We aim to be a neighborhood restaurant first and foremost, which means we are approachable, accessible, and craveable,” Lim says.

The menu may sound fancy, but kids are welcome, too. “We can always prepare dishes for children,” Glick explains. “I have five nieces and nephews. Their favorite food is pizza. So, we think we’ll be a hit with the kids.”

What’s on Tap

The robust bar program at Porter offers handcrafted cocktails, a range of wine options, and both domestic and imported beer. The chefs recommend trying the “Damn Fool”, “Baker’s Rack Old Fashioned”, or “NKOTB” (see the website for descriptions). One other key note is that Porter gives a nod to NJ-based companies. For example, you’ll find beers from Departed Soles Brewing Company and spirits from All Points West Distillery.

Coffee, house-made pastries, ice cream, wine, and grocery items are also available at their in-house café and bakery; Porter Provisions. In fact, you’ll find items such as condiments, jams, sauces, and dry pasta, plus housewares like candles and soaps. Under normal circumstances, the bakery space also doubles as a 27-seat private dining room during dinner hours.
