The Best New Jersey Food Trucks: Twisted Steaks

Several years ago, friends Andrew Agostinacchio and David Langhurst quit their corporate careers to begin one in food trucking. Together, they are the founders of Twisted Steaks, a food truck specializing in cheesesteaks; and the latest mobile eatery to join our list of The Best New Jersey Food Trucks.

Both Andrew and David are true foodies, traveling to cities like Philadelphia, Manhattan and Las Vegas on food adventures. But their passion for cheesesteaks is what brought them into business together as one of Central Jersey’s favorite trucks. Now, Twisted Steaks serves their unique cheesesteaks throughout NJ as well as in New York and Pennsylvania.

The duo operate two trucks based in New Egypt, Ocean County, but this isn’t your average cheesesteak truck. In fact, Twisted Steaks combines cheesy shaved ribeye with soft, twisted pretzel buns. It’s a unique pairing that will have you right back in line for seconds. Of course, the truck offers several different types of cheesesteaks, including one with chicken.

They also serve waffle fries, including their signature “loaded waffle fries” which come in a gigantic bowl; these fries are then topped with steak or chicken, maple glazed bacon, and melted cheese. Other options include cheesesteak egg rolls and dumplings.

Check out our interview below, as Best of NJ speaks to Andrew about the origin and menu of Twisted Steaks.

Cheesesteak Options

Best of NJ: Before we get into the food, tell us a little about yourselves.

Andrew Agostinacchio: David Langhurst and I met when our now-25-year-old daughters started kindergarten. We have been friends since then. David’s career was in IT, and mine was in corporate dining management.

BONJ: What made you get into food trucking?

Andrew: Definitely a passion for food and a great idea as well as our desire to leave corporate America.

BONJ: Do you still work full-time during the week?

Andrew: We work full time with Twisted Steaks.

BONJ: Where did you get the idea for cheesesteaks made with pretzel buns?

Andrew: Let’s just say a trip to Vegas and all that happens there had something to do with it.

BONJ: Other than the pretzel buns, what else sets your cheesesteaks apart from the rest?

Andrew: The compliments that we receive are as much about the taste of our cheesesteak as the amazing combination of the cheesesteak and pretzel.

Andrew: The original cheesesteak pretzel.

BONJ: What else do you offer on your truck?

Andrew: We have a few variations of our cheesesteak pretzel. The bacon cheesesteak pretzel is very popular as well. We offer loaded waffle fries and cheesesteak eggrolls with house-made dipping sauces that are often requested.

BONJ: How much has your menu changed since you guys first started out?

Andrew: Our core menu has not changed; we do offer themed menu items for events but our original menu remains the same.

BONJ: What kind of catering packages/options do you offer?

Andrew: We offer on-site catering with three options. Our guests choose how many items that they would like to offer.

BONJ: Where can people find Twisted Steaks this summer?

Andrew: We have two trucks and travel from New York City to Pennsylvania. We ask that they follow us on Facebook and Instagram to see our event locations. We love what we do and are so happy to share it.
