North Jersey

Adam's Bagels bacon, egg, and cheese, one of the best bagels

Adam’s Bagels

Location: 655 Westwood Ave, River Vale
Details: At Adam’s Bagels, the food is made to order and cooked right behind the counter. In fact, you’ll see them cracking the eggs right in front of you! The menu includes both breakfast and lunch options, and portion sizes are larger than normal (without the price hike).
Why I like it: The smoked salmon with cream cheese, avocado, and cucumbers on a bagel is perfect for brunch.
More info: Look for them online to learn more.

Alfa Bagels

Location: 587 NJ-10, Randolph
Details: Fans of Alfa Bagels are typically lifers, with many of them bringing their children for years to come. For many Randolph residents, it’s simply a part of their daily morning routine. In fact, you’ll find a full parking lot and a line of customers even on weekday mornings. But that’s the price you pay for high quality, hand-rolled bagels that taste great.
Why I like it: Alfa is home to “the Giant Bagel,” which may just be the largest bagels in New Jersey.
More info: Look for them online to learn more.

B&G Bagels

Location: 51 E Main St, Ramsey
Details: B&G Bagels serves way more than bagels, but that doesn’t make their bagels any less impressive. From omelettes and platters to baked goods and “super charged” breakfasts, this bagel shop will alleviate any appetite. But please, keep it a secret that their math is off; a dozen bagels at B&G gets you 14 bagels, even more than a baker’s dozen!
Why I like it: B&G puts out special Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday menus, as well as the Super Bowl.
More info: Look for them online to learn more.

Bagelloops Inc.

Location: 2134 Hamburg Turnpike, Wayne
Details: There’s always something fresh coming out of the oven at this spot, the surprise is finding out what. Onion, whole wheat, french toast, garlic, salt, and so many more are on the menu at this local landmark. But what’s even more impressive are the colorful limited time bagels they are always churning out; such as their Mr. Incredible bagel for Father’s Day.
Why I like it: Their famous rainbow bagels are truly a remarkable explosion of color (and flavor).
More info: Look for them online to learn more.

Bagels by Jarrett

Location: 451 Mt Pleasant Ave, West Orange
Details: The fanbase for Bagels by Jarrett is, let’s just say, loyal to their favorite bagel shop. (See them on Facebook and Instagram.) But it’s easy to taste why, thanks to the shop’s twice-baked, heavily seasoned bagels. The secret is a recipe unique to owner Jarrett (and maybe the water in West Orange). Either way, the flavor profile is undeniable.
Why I like it: Taking a dozen frozen bagels home? Jarrett still has you covered, with reheating tips online to maximize your enjoyment.
More info: Click here to see the menu, or you can click here to give them a call.

Bagelwich Bagel Bakery

Location: 652 Bloomfield Ave, Verona
Details: Bagelwich’s Verona location has been in existence since 1982, and remains a local favorite almost 40 years later. But it’s not just bagels here, you can enjoy breakfast burritos, paninis, and subs, too. There’s also a second location in West Caldwell if that’s more convenient for you.
Why I like it: Their signature variety of bagels and spreads, including the bacon and herb cream cheese.
More info: Look for them online to learn more.

Boonton Bagels & Gourmet Deli

Location: 520 Myrtle Ave, Boonton
Details: Folks who swear by NYC bagels often come around when they taste one by Boonton Bagels. That’s because owner Emad boils his bagels in New York water, slowly perfecting his technique for over 30 years. Rather than the typical spreads (which they still offer), we recommend filling your bagel with gourmet deli meats and cheese; it makes for a delicious lunch.
Why I like it: Emad also owns Florham Park Bagel & Deli in the Regency Plaza, if that’s closer.
More info: Look for them online to learn more.

Boxcar Bagels

These high-quality, low-cost bagels taste great even when you eat them plain; however, when you do put something inside, Boxcar Bagels adds generous portions of filling. One thing to know about Boxcar is they are cash only.
Why I like it: It takes true mastery of the craft to make even whole grain bagels taste delicious.

Goldberg’s Bagels of Wyckoff

They use a Polish family recipe that involves hand rolling, kettle boiling, and baking over oak planks. Of course, the end result is an award-winning bagel that locals love.

Victoria’s Bagel Bistro

Location: 3131 NJ-38, Mount Laurel
Details: Serving breakfast all day long, Victoria’s Bagel Bistro has mouth-watering breakfast sandwiches available on fresh, doughy bagels. In fact, the food is so good you should probably call ahead; otherwise, you can expect a wait for your order. Speaking of French toast bagels, locals say this spot has the best in the area.
Why I like it: Victoria’s unexpectedly whips up limited batches of their famous tie-dye bagels now and again.

Westmont Bagel

Location: 674 W Cuthbert Blvd, Haddon Township
Details: Nat Acchione started Westmont Bagel back in 1993, striving to make the best boiled bagels around. That remains true today, with his daughter and son-in-law running the shop and serving up delicious bagels. You can really feel the love at this family spot. There’s a great variety here, including everything from rye to marble to whole-wheat everything bagels.
Why I like it: Their easy online system makes ordering ahead a breeze.
