New Jersey’s Best American Restaurants of 2025

Featured from Middlesex County:
Orchard Park by David Burke

Burger from Orchard Park by David Burke

Where: 670 Cranbury Rd, East Brunswick
Details: Orchard Park blends the best of David Burke’s other American restaurants in New Jersey into one signature menu. The marquee dishes center around his patented Himalayan sea salt dry-aged steaks, but there’s so much creativity on display; for instance, seasonal favorites like the Charred Corn & Burrata Ravioli or the Miso Glazed Swordfish with stir fry. Of course, his famous Clothesline Bacon and Signature DB Chicken are also available here. They have specials nearly every day of the week; Monday is Burger Night, Tuesday is Short Rib Night, Wednesday is Date Night, Thursday is Mediterranean Night, plus Sunday Brunch. Besides elegant indoor dining, their Orchard Terrace offers elevated outdoor dining. The latter is protected from the elements, yet airy and open with a full bar and fire pits. The dessert menu at this spot is not to be ignored, and is brimming with unforgettable options. We recommend the ice cream sandwich with sugar cookie, vanilla ice cream, toasted marshmallow, strawberry, pistachio, and chocolate sauce.

Where: Hackensack
Details: Perhaps the most iconic burger joint in Bergen County (if not New Jersey), the White Manna is tall in flavor but not in stature. It exists somewhere between a burger stand and a micro-diner; with a pint-sized interior that hasn’t changed much since the restaurant came to town in 1946. Their legendary burgers are made from extra lean ground beef delivered daily from a local supplier; topped with onions and cheese and served on a Martin’s Potato Roll. One bite is all it takes to understand why they serve 800-1,000+ burgers daily.

Central Jersey

Details: If The Frog and The Peach is famous for anything, it’s gourmet American cuisine and, specifically, their Sunday Brunch. While their daily lunch and dinner menu features plenty of favorites — from Black Truffle Ricotta Gnocchi and Prosciutto Wrapped Rabbit Loin to Pan Roasted Griggstown Chicken — their Sunday Brunch menu (and bottomless brunch beverages) is the stuff of local legends. Brunch highlights include house-smoked salmon, Huevos Rancheros, fried chicken and waffles, and our personal pick, lobster eggs Benedict.

Turf Surf and Earth

Where: Somerville
Details: Turf Surf and Earth (though many locals will say any order of those three words when naming the restaurant) specializes in made-to-order gourmet meals. The plant-based menu focuses on ingredients and practices that are healthy, sustainable, and compassionate. The lunch and dinner menu has a heavy focus on handhelds, including burgers and sandwiches. There really isn’t a bad option, but our typical go-to sandwiches are The Grandmas Boy and The Buff Chick. For burgers, it’s gotta be The Big Mack Smash.

White Rose Hamburgers

Where: Highland Park
Details: A small-ish burger joint and diner, White Rose has been in operation since 1957. It is one of the few restaurants in New Jersey that remains open 24/7 for six nights a week. (On Mondays they are open from 6:00 am to midnight.) The robust menu features diner classics like chicken gyros, Philly cheesesteaks, burgers, breakfast sandwiches, and more. When it comes to their burgers, we say go big or go home: The Double Cali Bacon Cheeseburger is the ultimate cure for those late-night munchies.

We also recommend the Fried Shrimp & Cod Combo paired with a Gin Martini.

Seasonal lunch and dinner specials give the menu a fresh update on a frequent basis, along with plenty of mainstays. Popular diner-esque starters include the cheesesteak eggrolls, boneless chicken bites, nachos, and mozzarella sticks. Even the dessert menu is big, with a dozen options to choose from (including our favorite, fried ice cream).

Sweet Amalia Market & Kitchen
