CoZie Cafe Prioritizes Inclusivity & Tasty Drinks in Fair Lawn

The new CoZie Cafe in Fair Lawn aims to live up to its name in more ways than one. “We are an LGBTQ+ and woman-owned business, so it is extremely important for us to provide a safe space for everyone,” says Cameo Zvanets, who owns the spot with her wife, Elana.

The 950-square foot CoZie Cafe is right next to The Beauty Loft salon, the couple’s other business. In fact, their original idea was to create a small coffee space for the salon. But the idea expanded and eventually became CoZie Cafe. “Now not only do our salon guests get to enjoy our delicious treats, but everyone does,” Cameo says. “Elana has always wanted a place to share her love of food and drinks, so we took a chance. And we are so happy we did.”

Get Cozy

Elana describes the interior of CoZie Cafe as “very eclectic and homey,” seating 10 to 15 guests at a time. However, they also plan to offer sidewalk seating for up to 15 more diners during warm weather months. Of course, the cafe specializes in beverages like fresh batch coffee. Cameo’s current favorite drink is the Reese’s Latte, which can come hot or iced, and with or without caffeine. Likewise, Elana’s drink of choice is the salted caramel cold brew, which blends salty and sweet flavors.

Like the décor, the menu is equally eclectic. “We have so many options to choose from. It was very important for us to try and include everyone in our menu,” Elana says. For instance, the menu has options for gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, kosher, and allergy free; the latter means they accommodate nut, tree nut, milk, dairy, gluten, soy, and egg allergies. Food items include Balthazar pastries, salads, wraps, snack boxes, and sandwiches. They also have desserts, like their 5- or 8-ounce cake jars. Future plans to expand the menu currently focus on adding fresh crepes with fresh fruit and toppings.

About the Owners

Cameo grew up in Fair Lawn and always knew she wanted to raise her family there. “When it came to opening a business for us, we knew Fair Lawn was the place. We love our community here and are proud to be a part of it,” she says. Meanwhile, Elana has been in the restaurant business for most of her career, as everything from busboy to bartender. “Now she is everyone’s favorite barista,” Cameo says.
