Thaiway Bistro in Englewood is on a mission to bring genuine Thai flavors to the United States. The restaurant strictly serves authentic Thai cuisine, crafted with care and variety, exactly the way it’s made in Thailand. This will be a particular shock to New Jerseyans who may think they know what real Pad Thai is.
The recipes used at Thaiway Bistro have been passed down through generations. Executive Chef and Co-owner Vichaya (Vic) Kulapaditharom says each recipe comes from his grandmother, passed down to his mother, and now to him. “Every dish reflects true Thai flavors, traditions, and techniques, without shortcuts and no compromises,” he says.

Pad Thai. The Real Kind
Vic encourages anyone who has had Pad Thai in the past to try it from Thaiway Bistro. “It’s very different from what most Thai restaurants serve here because it’s exactly how you’d find it on the streets of Bangkok. It’s the real thing,” he explains. “It’s fun to watch people discover what Pad Thai is truly meant to taste like.”
Besides that, the Pad Kra Pao is another dish that often surprises guests for the same reason. It’s a bold, balanced, and unapologetically authentic take on a typically-Americanized dish. In addition, Thaiway Bistro serves rich, stew-like curries just as they are in Thailand.

Their Lamb massaman is slowly simmered for 2.5 hours. Beef green curry cooks for 1.5 hours to develop depth and complexity without taking shortcuts. Crab curry is a labor of love, too. “It’s a dish that’s notoriously difficult to execute properly, which is why it’s so rare to find done right,” Vic says. “If you’ve been to Thailand, you know.”
About Thaiway Bistro
Open since July 2025, Thaiway Bistro is a minimalist and modern space that seats 27 diners inside. While they don’t have outdoor seating, they may use the alley next to their space for a street food event. (Likely in the spring or summer.) “We just love Englewood,” says Vic. “It’s such a cute and charming town.”

Co-owners Vic and Sun Youngsun were both interior designers and graduates of the Fashion Institute of Technology. As the main chef, Vic refines the restaurant’s recipes, which are firmly rooted in his family heritage. Vic was born and raised in Bangkok and has a lifelong passion for cooking. Of course, the restaurant’s menu reflects his love for food and family tradition. Meanwhile, Sun designed the restaurant’s interior and oversees all aesthetic aspects of the space.
