Now that spring has arrived and the weather is finally warming up, it’s time to grab the family and head out to one of the many festivals happening in New Jersey this month. So grab your umbrella (just in case) and celebrate springtime, jazz, Colonial times or just enjoy tasting some chili!

Easter & Springtime Family Festival

Where: Alstede Farms, 1 Alstede Farms Lane, Chester
When: April 6, 7, 13-20 & 22, hours vary
Price: $8.99 for adults, $19.99 for children
Details: Pay one price and enjoy tons of fun activities like wagon rides, moon bounces, pony rides, egg hunts, marshmallow roasting and more! Take a scenic hayride around the farm or visit the Corn Kingdom. Close out your day with a tour of the Cider Mill and enjoy a complimentary cup of cider made at the farm.

Northern Valley Earth Fair

Where: Tenafly Middle School, 10 Sunset Lane, Tenafly
When: April 27 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm
Price: Free admission
Details: Children’s activities, live animal shows, electric vehicles and green cars, plus food, live music and dozens of environmentally-friendly vendors are featured at the Northern Valley Earth Fair. There’s also free paper-shredding available, so bring your old documents to be shredded and recycled.

Central Jersey April Festivals

“Bring the Heat” Chili Cook-Off

Where: Clinton First Aid & Rescue Squad, 48 Old Highway 22, Clinton
When: April 13 at 4:00 pm
Price: $15 at the door, $12 in advance, free for children 12 & under
Details: Taste a variety of delicious chili recipes and vote for your favorite while enjoying live music from Doctor D Entertainment. Beer and wine are available for purchase and you can also try your luck at the tricky tray and 50/50 raffle. If you want to enter the cook-off, the entrance fee is $25 and includes two tickets to the event.

Spring Festival

Where: Rutgers Log Cabin and Alumni Pavilion, 140 Log Cabin Road, New Brunswick
When: April 14 from noon to 4:00 pm
Price: $5 suggested donation
Details: Sponsored by Rutgers’ own Alpha Zeta Honors Fraternity, the Spring Festival is a day of fun in the fresh air of Rutgers Gardens. Face painting, photo booths, crafts, egg hunts, food and more will get the spring season started right. All proceeds will benefit the Rutgers Gardens.

Jersey Shore April Festivals

Exit Zero Jazz Festival

Where: Various locations in Cape May
When: April 12-14, hours vary
Price: $79 for a Friday or Saturday pass, $39 for a Sunday pass or $189 for an all-weekend pass
Details: Locations throughout Cape May will host the hottest names in jazz for this twice-yearly festival. View the full schedule online to make sure you don’t miss your favorite performers. On tap this spring are Chick Corea Trilogy, Lizz Wright, Veronica Swift and more.

Allaire BBQ & Brew Festival

Where: The Historic Village at Allaire, 4263 Atlantic Avenue, Farmingdale
When: April 27 & 28 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm
Price: $13.59 for adults, $9.39 for children
Details: Explore all that historic Allaire has to offer while sipping craft beer and enjoying some tasty BBQ at the fourth annual BBQ & Brew Festival. Live music and craft shops mean there’s something for everyone at this rain or shine event. Beer tickets available for extra cost once inside the festival.

South Jersey April Festivals

MDA Eats N Beats Food Truck and Music Festival

Where: Roebling Museum, 100 2nd Avenue, Roebling
When: April 20 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm
Price: $12.24 for adults, $6.94 for children ages 6-15, children under 6 are free
Details: Live music all day provides the perfect backdrop to drink beer and sample tasty bites from a host of food trucks. Register online if you’d like to participate in the event’s 5K race at 8:00 am before attending the festival. All proceeds go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, which supports local families battling the disease.

Spring Open House and Revolutionary Weekend

Where: Gabreil Daveis Tavern, 500 Third Avenue, Glendora
When: April 27 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm & April 28 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
Price: Free admission
Details: Come experience Colonial life for the day. Watch living history demonstrations of blacksmithing, beading, campfire cooking, wool spinning, weaving, musket building and more. Kids can play colonial children’s games and participate in minutemen drills. Purchase $1 tickets to try tomahawk throwing, shooting a primitive bow and arrow or firing a flintlock rifle.
