Their extensive breakfast menu includes an optional bottomless Lavazza coffee add-on. Other menu favorites include burgers, steaks, pastas and more. Standout dishes include their Wagyu Pastrami Sandwich, Pancake Lollipops and Triple-Decker Sandwiches. Carnegie Diner is also the first diner in America to offer a full-page of plant-based options. Be sure to try their homemade pies, cupcakes, cookies, and over-the-top milkshakes to satisfy any sweet tooth. Their signature, decadent (and Instagram-famous) 24-layer chocolate cake is simply a must-try.

Where: 517 NJ-10, Randolph
Details: The Randolph Diner promises “restaurant food at diner prices” and they are true to their word. Patrons rave about the high-quality, fairly-priced, well-portioned meals in addition to their happy hour and bar specials. Their sizeable menu is packed with all sorts of options, including a number of signature burgers. Standout examples include the Pizza Burger, Bacon Dijon Burger, and Mac N Cheese Burger. But their “Southern Delights” section is a showstopper, boasting BBQ Ribs & Chicken, Shrimp in a Basket, and Fajitas. Just be sure to save room for one of their classic diner desserts. This includes cake slices, pie slices, cheesecakes, ice cream, chocolate mousse cake, baked pastries, rice pudding, and more. In particular, their “famous” Baklava Cheesecake is a unique treat and the perfect ending to any meal. CHiT CHaT Diner

Where: 410 Eagle Rock Ave, West Orange | 515 Essex St, Hackensack
Details: The CHiT ChaT Diner boasts an outstanding menu and unmatched service as selling points that set them apart. Their modern interior feels fancy, but retains some classic diner elements like a black and white color scheme. The main menu features favorites like buffalo chicken egg rolls, the Bourbon Street Burger, and fried jumbo shrimp. For instance, their Healthy Morning Starters include fruit bowls, Greek yogurt, pecan granola, and hot or cold cereal. Plenty of traditional favorites — from pancakes and waffles to platters and omelettes — are available as well. But patrons really love their Red Velvet Pancakes. Foodies Diner

Boasting a cozy, modern diner feel and a menu that recreates traditional favorites with a twist, every dish is unique. Breakfast favorites include PB&J French Toast, Oreo Pancakes, and the Western Omelette Sandwich. Burger lovers will have to agonize over what to order, with choices like the Jersey Burger, Texas Showdown, and Cuban. Save room for one of their classic diner desserts, from Chef Prepared Rice Pudding to the Banana Split.
Jefferson Diner
Where: Lake Hopatcong
Details: Locals may scoff at the Jefferson Diner for its inclusion, as many claim that fame ruined the diner. After appearing on Food Network programs such as Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive Ins and Dives, the diner’s popularity exploded. (Owners Jimmy and Nick Seretis even famously purchased Fieri’s signature Red Camaro after the taping.) Despite their fame, the warm hospitality, vintage 50’s era aesthetic, and glowing neon signs all make for an authentic experience. Fewer diners feel more like a true “New Jersey Diner” than Jefferson Diner.
Tops Diner
Where: East Newark
Details: Tops has been a staple of Harrison/East Newark since 1942. In fact, the restaurant estimates they serve over 15,000 patrons every week. After a massive renovation and menu overhaul, they have become less of a diner and more of an upscale restaurant. However, the ample portions and exceptional cheesecakes and burgers still give them that classic diner spirit, meriting their inclusion. They also offer a can’t-miss brunch, featuring Blueberry Lemon Cornbread, Filet Mignon Steak & Eggs, and Spanish Paella.
Central Jersey
Featured from Middlesex County:
The Edison Diner

Where: 101 US-1, Edison
Details: The Edison Diner is an old-school diner owned by the same family for over 50 years. Current Owner Evan Kalambakas maintains his family’s tradition of providing fresh Full-Course Entrees, made from scratch every day. Menu items include “Diner Greats” like the Smothered Steak Sandwich. This 8oz sirloin steak comes on toasted garlic bread with mushrooms, peppers, onions, and melted mozzarella cheese. Another fan favorite is the Sicilian Chicken Sandwich with grilled chicken breast, marinara sauce, and melted mozzarella cheese. But fajitas are their house specialty, featuring a half pound of sizzling steak or chicken strips, with optional shrimp combos. Their selection of Late Night Specials includes the Jumbo Italian Hot Dog, Pulled Pork Carnitas, Authentic Fish and Chips, and their original creation, the Cyprian Stuffed Breadcone. Don’t forget to try their old-fashioned malted milkshake. All-day Breakfast features hits like Pasture-Raised Three Egg Loaded Skillet and Authentic Irish Breakfast Platter.

Broad Street Diner
Where: Hamilton
Details: Broad Street Diner is one of few remaining diners to stay open “late” (sometimes til midnight). Like any exceptional diner, their menu is a mix of international dishes, traditional favorites, and contemporary twists. The stars of their breakfast all day menu are the Belgium waffles and traditional Hotcakes. We recommend the waffle with two eggs and turkey bacon for a hearty meal. For something different, try a stuffed seafood option (shrimp, flounder, or tilapia) with crabmeat stuffing. For dessert, it’s gotta be The Phillip Arthur sundae!
Clinton Station Diner
Where: Clinton
Details: The once-flourishing-but-now-rare 24/7 diner lives on at Clinton Station. Between their nationwide shipping (via Goldbelly) and never-ending hours, Clinton Station is literally always ready to serve. (They even have a drive-thru!) Besides classic diner options, Clinton Station is also known for their massive Burger Challenges. A variety of behemoth burgers are available to challenge solo or with up to 9 friends. As for the regular menu, we recommend the Primavera Omelette, Italian Sausage Sandwich or Athenian Moussaka.
Somerset Diner
Where: Somerset
Details: One of the last standing 24/7 diners in New Jersey, the Somerset Diner is far from an aging relic. In fact, they make every effort to keep current by offering amenities like high-speed WiFi and Outlet/USB charging. Their menu includes daily lunch and dinner specials, as well as breakfast favorites and more. Popular picks include the Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Sandwich, classic Chicken Gyro, and the Somerset Sloppy Joe. (The sandwich, not the burger.) Rutgers students and Senior citizens receive 10% off their meals with a valid ID.
Summit Diner
Where: Summit
Details: Summit Diner is about as retro as it gets. This cash-only spot serves diner staples out of a train car. Open early morning (5:00 am) through late afternoon (3:00 or 4:00 pm), they specialize in breakfast and lunch options. Their signature breakfast platters combine eggs, pancakes, or French toast with a choice of breakfast meat for a hearty meal. We also recommend the Chicken Salad club sandwich. Meanwhile, their assortment of classic diner desserts includes bread pudding, muffins, danishes, cheesecake, and pound cakes.
White Rose Diner
Where: Linden
Details: If there’s a trifecta of diner menu staples, it’s probably the trio of burgers, breakfasts, and Taylor ham sandwiches. As it happens, White Rose Diner is a fan-favorite for all three. Owner and Chef Rich Belfer is famous for his sliders and Taylor Ham offerings, garnering national attention. (Even Chef Bobby Flay is a fan!) Other standout menu items include Catfish Nuggets, Corned Beef Hash, and their Hot & Spicy Chicken Wings. As for the burgers, we recommend either the California Cheese Burger or signature Jersey Burger.
Jersey Shore
Americana Diner
Where: Shrewsbury
Details: The Americana boasts that classic huge diner menu veteran NJ diner patrons expect. From endless breakfast selections — including benedicts, omelettes, waffles, pancakes, bagels, and more — to salads, burgers, and triple-decker clubs; there truly is something for everyone available at this spot. (They have over 25 sandwich options alone.) For a late night bite on a cold night, nothing hits the spot quite like their Chicken Bacon Tomato Melt. Be sure to save room for a classic milkshake or their lemon meringue pie.
Broad Street Diner
Where: Keyport
Details: No need to do a double take, this is the second Broad Street Diner to appear on our list. Though the names are identical, the diners are unrelated to each other. Arguably the lesser-known of the two, the Keyport Broad Street Diner is popular for its authentic diner experience. That means wall-to-wall memorabilia, a black-and-white color scheme, and quick service. In fact, the only “un-diner-ish” thing about them is that they close early (3:00 pm during the week, 8:00 pm from Thursday-Saturday). Try the Dutch Apple Pancakes!
Four Seasons Diner
Where: Toms River
Details: The Four Seasons boasts being the only diner along the Jersey Shore that has a full-size brick oven. What do they need it for? To make brick-oven pizza and oversized calzones, of course! Their large selection of pizza pies includes standouts like Pulled Pork, BBQ Chicken, and Penne Alla Vodka. Their signature Four Seasons pie features fresh mozzarella, plum tomato, pepperoni, artichokes, mushrooms, and Kalamata olives. Keeping with the theme, their signature Pizza Burger is also a winner, with homemade marinara and mozzarella.
Mustache Bill’s Diner
Where: Barnegat Light
Details: Stepping into Mustache Bill’s Diner is like taking a trip back to the 1950s. In addition to their classic dining car, outdoor (enclosed) patio seating is available. Their curated menu specializes in breakfast options like hot cakes, omelettes, and sandwiches. Locals have been on pins and needles the past couple years waiting to see if the diner remains open; Mustache Bill’s is only open seasonally and the current owners are looking to sell. But fear not, the current owners have decided to remain open in a limited capacity until a buyer emerges.
Rainbow Diner
Where: Brick
Details: Rainbow Diner devotes their menu to both sweet and savory options. For example, their Wake Up Wrap mixes scrambled eggs with ham, American cheese, onions, and jalapenos in a tortilla. Then there’s the French Toast Parisienne, deep-fried French toast sticks with honey and powdered sugar. Their kids menu stands out with creative names like Ninja Turtles (grilled cheese), Super Mario (chicken fingers), and Snoopy’s Delight (spaghetti and meatballs). Patrons also love their milkshakes and homemade bread pudding.
South Jersey
Featured from Burlington County:
Vincentown Diner

Where: 2357 US-206, Southampton Township
Details: Combining fresh ingredients, premium products, and generous portions, Vincentown Diner raises the bar for modern diners. The exterior looks sleek and new, but the interior retains that classic diner atmosphere. That includes plenty of booth seating, a display case full of cakes and baked treats, and everyone drinking large milkshakes. They source locally when possible, including featuring Jersey blueberries in their hot cakes and waffles. The menu ranges from classic starters like chicken tenders and fried mozzarella to a large variety of sandwiches and burgers. For breakfast, the Jersey Devil Benedict is a must; it’s a grilled English muffin with 7 pepper jam, grilled pork roll, American cheese, poached eggs, and Hollandaise sauce. We recommend the Truffle Shuffle Burger, a 100% Black Angus patty with Swiss cheese, fried onions, grilled mushrooms, and smoky truffle mayo.

Angelo’s Glassboro Diner
Where: Glassboro
Details: This vintage diner in downtown Glassboro feels like a trip back in time. From the counter seating filled with regulars on stools enjoying coffee with their breakfast; to the classic menu display hanging above the kitchen entrance. It’s almost shocking there isn’t a phone booth in the corner with men lined up to make sports bets. In any case, the one-page menu is concise and to the point showcasing their signature breakfast options. We recommend the short stack of hot cakes or “Tasty French Toast” with ham and a hot chocolate.
Monarch Diner
Where: Glassboro
Details: Monarch Diner offers breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert, along with stellar service and generous portions at great prices. Their breakfast menu features a number of fan favorites, from omelettes to breakfast quesadillas. We recommend the Oreo Blast French toast with nutella, vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and Oreo crumbs. Their signature, handcrafted 4-course house specialties start at $13.99 and include soup, salad, and dessert. The on-site bakery creates over 30 types of desserts, all made in house.
