Fans of both crystals and candles have a new shop to check out in Upper Montclair. As the name implies, Crystals & Candle is a candle and gemstone shop. They offer a special selection of hand-poured soy candles, custom crystal-infused candles, zodiac candles, and curated crystals.
The available crystals include amethyst (calmness and spiritual clarity), clear quartz (healing and energy boosting), and citrine (abundance and joy). They also have green aventurine (luck and prosperity), and snowflake obsidian (balance and clarity). Owner Christian Velez transformed the 800-square-foot space “into a warm and inviting haven for candle and crystal lovers.”

Create the Perfect Candle
Crystals & Candle customers can create a personalized and meaningful candle with a hidden gemstone inside. Scents include warm vanilla, spiced cinnamon and evergreen. They sell candles in reds, greens, and whites. “It’s the perfect gift,” Christian says. “Watching customers craft a candle and imagine the joy of someone discovering a hidden gemstone is truly special.”
“Our store feels cozy and festive, with twinkling lights, natural wood accents, and gemstone displays that sparkle,” Christian adds. “The vibe is warm and creative, inviting customers to relax and enjoy the experience.”
Besides merchandise, Crystals & Candle hosts make-your-own candle classes for adults and kids. Attendees choose a candle size and the scents (and in what ratio) to mix into a candle. They then add gemstones, and bring the candle home after the class. “Kids love the creativity of making their own candles, while adults enjoy blending luxurious fragrances and learning about gemstones.”
About Crystals & Candle
Christian lives in nearby Bloomfield, and has been dreaming of opening his business for years. He has a passion for gemstones and his co-founder, John, has decades of experience in the candle industry. Christian has always loved the community vibe in Upper Montclair, along with its charm during the holidays. While Montclair and Essex County in general are no stranger to metaphysical shops, his is the first in Upper Montclair. “Together, we’ve created a space where candles and crystals come together to spark joy and intention,” he explains.
Future plans for Crystals & Candle include introducing seasonal workshops, partnering with local artisans for special holiday collaborations, and expanding their gemstone candle offerings to include rare and unique stones. “Crystals & Candle is more than just a store,” Christian says. “It’s a place to create memories, find thoughtful gifts, and enjoy the magic of the season. We look forward to sharing this experience with the community.”
