If you live near Edison, NJ, and love Mexican food, then you’ll want to hear about this new restaurant. Tio Taco and Tequila Bar replaces the former Zinburger Wine & Burger Bar, taking full advantage of the large space. The 4,800-square foot interior seats 200 people, and they can also fit 50 people outdoors on a covered patio.
The décor and atmosphere makes this spot a great option no matter the weather. For instance, they have a firepit and overhead heaters outside. Meanwhile, their indoor dining offers a comfortable, feel-good atmosphere, and a high-energy vibe. “The décor is a rustic modern twist with a very ‘Day of the Dead’ look with murals of sugar-skull women,” says Andrea Bonfiglio, Events Coordinator + Culture Sustainability Director for Triple T Hospitality Group; the group runs both Tio Taco and Tequila Bar, as well as all Tommy’s Tavern + Tap locations.

But don’t let the “Hospitality Group” part stop you from thinking this is a family business; the Bonfiglio family owns these restaurants. “Tommy and Yvette Bonfiglio are visionaries who come up with trendy and modern concepts that give the feeling of a home away from home vibe, with delicious food, great drinks, and a fun, warm atmosphere,” Andrea says. She and her sister Christina work alongside parents Tommy and Yvette on both creativity and front/back of house operations.
What to Order at Tio Taco and Tequila Bar
At Tio Taco and Tequila Bar, you’ll find festive street fair Mexican food made with quality ingredients at affordable prices. Right now the Baja shrimp tacos are a big hit, as are the carne asada tacos. Then there’s the signature truffle guacamole, made with fire-roasted corn salsa, lime, cotija cheese, and infused with truffle oil. Chimmichuri skirt steak and fajitas are also popular options.
Of course, the “tequila” part of the name is there for a reason. In fact, their menu boasts over 50 tequilas and features many popular brands. “Our frozen flights are a hit,” Andrea says. The flights include four 5-ounce mini frozen margaritas, between blood orange, mango, passion fruit, prickly pear, and strawberry. Specialty cocktails include their classic margarita, Mexican bulldog, and jalapeno margarita.
