The name Neighborhood Favorites came naturally for owner Randy Morrison. A customer at his prior restaurant was sad to see it was closing. She told him a neighborhood favorite was going out of business. The phrase stuck with Morrison, and it’s now the moniker of his new spot in Newark.
The 700-square-foot space does not have any tables for dine-in service. However Neighborhood Favorites does have a bar counter and activities patrons can enjoy while they wait for their food. For instance, they have a photo wall complete with working swing, six TV screens for live sports, and an Xbox.

A Mix of Flavors
The menu combines American classics with a taste of soul food and even some Caribbean dishes. Randy says the two most popular menu items are the lobster grilled cheese with French fries and the sliders combo. The latter features burger or salmon sliders with wings and fries. In particular, Randy’s favorite dish is the wings with their special KKB sauce.
Besides the standard menu, they also offer specials and discounts. For example, every Sunday they serve a special menu called Soul Food Sundays. Likewise, previous weekly menu specials include a deal for two meats, two sides, and a free drink. Neighborhood Favorites currently serves lunch and dinner, but also plans to roll out a breakfast menu soon.

About the Business
Randy was born and raised in Newark. He has no formal cooking training, instead learning the trade by watching his mother, aunt, godmother, and godfather cook. Prior to opening Neighborhood Favorites, he and his brother ran King Krab Boyz in Newark. Their current restaurant began by cooking in their church’s yard before moving into the church’s commercial kitchen. Then, they moved into their own space when a rental space in town became available.
The restaurant is an early success, and Randy hopes to move into a larger space and open more locations soon.
