Each time a patron steps into Kohr Soft Ice Cream — otherwise known as Kohr’s — in Parkertown (a neighborhood within Little Egg Harbor Township), they find the perfect model of an ice cream shop. “It’s quaint,” says Pat Kohr, co-manager. “It’s like a grandma’s ice cream shop but with a bit of adventure.”
Pat says Kohr Soft Ice Cream stands apart for their unique flavors that guests won’t find anywhere else. The menu boasts a mix of traditional and trendy offerings. Hit flavors include Ube, Pandan, Red Velvet Cake, Vanilla Heaven, Kauai Pie, Honey Lavender, and Butter Brickle. They also offer water ice and soft serve, in addition to dairy, sugar-free, vegan, and gluten-free options.

Over 50 Flavors to Try
Eva Kohr, Pat’s mother, owns the business and property along with two of her sisters. Despite serving over 50 creative flavors of ice cream, her go-to flavor is a familiar choice. “The soft serve vanilla with a little bit of hot fudge is my all time favorite,” she says. Besides owning and operating the shop day to day, Eva is responsible for developing half of the ice cream flavors
For customers who can’t decide what to order, Kohr Soft Ice Cream offers a flight of four flavors. Pat loves to create flights with fun options like Mexican Candy, Chocolate Wasabi Cheesecake, Ube Macapuno, and Strawberry Shortcake; with sides of Belgium waffle chips and chocolate chip cookies as well. “We have drawn so much attention this year with our flight option and bizarre flavors. People from hours away come to try our ice cream because literally no one else has the creativity like us.”

In addition to selling ice cream, the shop hosts ice cream eating challenges boasting a 4.5 lb sundae. Likewise, they have small toys shaped like ice cream and dessert as gift options for kids. Once per season, they host family activities. During spring, kids can take pictures with the Easter Bunny and make their own sundae in a jumbo egg. In the summer, celebrate National Ice Cream Day with an ice-cream eating contest. They also plan to host different themes each Halloween, including Harry Potter. Patrons can expect discounts for wearing costumes, plus unique butter beer ice cream and other Halloween-inspired flavors.
About Kohr Soft Ice Cream
Eva’s motivation for operating Kohr Soft Ice Cream is simple but powerful. Her late husband, Paul Kohr, came from a long line of ice cream makers. She learned much of the nuts and bolts of operating an ice cream shop from watching him. Meanwhile, her background as an artist helps Eva with both cake making and decorating. “I feel it’s my solemn duty to carry on my husband’s legacy for my children and my grandchildren,” she says.
The 3,000-square foot space can seat 15 to 18 guests inside. They also have seasonal outdoor seating for 30 across their covered patio, umbrella-covered tables, and picnic tables. “People in the area love us and we have a steady following,” Eva says. “We also give back to the community in the form of sponsorship of local events.”

Future plans include expanding their output of new and original flavors. Starting next year, they want to drop four to eight new flavors a month. They also hope to modernize their menus, build their website, upgrade their packaging, and be a vendor at northeast events. Plans for another location are also in the works, due to their consistent popularity.
