North Jersey Donut Shops

Donuts from Montclair Bread Company

Where: 45 Broadway, Denville
Details: Warm, fresh donuts and a coffee bar will greet you at Beignets. Meanwhile, gourmet donuts include Camryn’s Strawberry Fields, a strawberry glazed donut with white chocolate chips; then there’s Logan’s Oreo Explosion, a chocolate glazed donut with Oreo cookie crumbs and chocolate sprinkles. Both get their names from the owner’s family members. At Beignets, you can also create your own donut! Just pick a glaze and then which toppings you’d like.
Why I like it: Beignets are also (obviously) on the menu. If you’ve never tried one, you’ll want to; it’s a French pastry that is fried and topped with powdered sugar.

Glaze Donuts

Where: 2151Lemoine Avenue, Fort Lee | 358 River Road, New Milford | 554 Passaic Avenue, West Caldwell

Glaze Donuts cooks their donuts in small batches throughout the day, without using preservatives or high fructose corn syrup. They also offer Gifford’s ice cream with options like donut sundaes and ice cream donut sandwiches. (But only at their West Caldwell and Fort Lee locations.) They even have homemade soda and homemade waffles (New Milford only).
Why I like it: The famous Italian Rainbow Cookie-Donut, with its jelly filling and a layer of chocolate. In fact, this is such a hot ticket it’s only available on weekends.

Montclair Bread Company

Location: 16 Label Street, Montclair, 07042

Owner and head baker, Rachel Crampsey, says bread is her first passion. However, she admits she also loves doughnuts. Montclair Bread Company offers classic donuts like apple cider, as well as specialty donuts including maple bacon. Meanwhile, premium donuts feature flavors like Nutella. This shop is also home to the “duffin,” a muffin they bake in the shape of a donut.
Why I like it: Celebrate a special occasion with a giant donut cake, in either 6” or 10” size.

Central Jersey Donut Shops

Donuts from Duck Donuts

Curiosity Doughnuts

Where: Whole Foods Market, 3495 US-1 South, Princeton
Details: How can anyone resist a S’mores donut? Curiosity Doughnuts first began with a question, “What can we do with donuts?” back in 2015. To this day, they’re constantly creating new varieties. At first, it was donuts, frozen custard, and homemade sauces. Since then, their menu has grown to include even more specialty items; such as the pretzel-crusted fried chicken served with pepper caramel dipping sauce and doughnut bread pudding. Need we say more?
Why I like it: The freshly-made donuts are only available on Sundays at the Princeton Whole Foods; so be sure to get there when they arrive at 10:00 am, otherwise they always sell out!

First, there’s the Reese’s PB Cup donut; then they have a cheesecake with strawberries donut; finally, their tiramisu donut is a real treat. If you’re feeling creative you can pick up their DIY Donut Kit; this comes with eight plain donuts, both vanilla and strawberry icing, chocolate drizzle, and sprinkles.

Details: Duck Donuts got its name from the Outer Banks town of Duck, North Carolina. Owner Russ DiGilio spent years vacationing in the quiet, family-friendly town. But he took notice that warm, fresh donuts were nowhere to be found. After successfully opening a shop there, he brought his business home to NJ. The famous Duck Donut is a freshly-made vanilla cake donut. The most popular coatings include cinnamon and sugar, chocolate icing, or peanut butter icing.

Of course, if none of those satisfy your craving, you can also create your own donut. They also have vegan, gluten-free, and parve varieties.

Their signature donut is the famous cream donut, a sugary donut filled with an insane amount of homemade whipped cream. It’s something that keeps customers coming back to McMillan’s year after year.
