Max’s Seafood Café
Max’s Seafood Café resides in a building that dates back to 1890. Periodic renovations help the quaint dining spot keep up with the times, but elements of its century-old status still remain, including the architectural detail along the roof’s edge and the beautiful bay windows on the second level. The Café boasts a warm, well-lit interior featuring glossy hardwood floors, rich wood trim and exposed brick. Portions of the ceiling are beautifully detailed, and the furniture is simple and comfortable.
If you visit for lunch, try a daily special, such as the Cajun Blackened Salmon with lime butter glaze, or the spice-rubbed, grilled Mahi Mahi with tropical fruit salsa. Thursdays at Max’s Seafood Café celebrate the restaurant’s famous grilled veggie wrap, stuffed with veggies of your choice including portabella mushrooms, eggplant and roasted peppers. On Friday, the star of the show is the Fried Shrimp Po’ Boy, along with shredded cabbage, queso fresco, hand-cut French fries, and salsa roasted tomato remoulade. You can also indulge in the Cedar Plank Salmon, encrusted with pecans, with roasted Brussel sprouts on the side.
For dinner, Max’s Seafood Café offers a multi-course experience beginning with appetizers like Max’s Famous Mussels, Grilled Parmesan Polenta, Max’s Crab Dip or New Jersey Long Hots. Follow it up with Maryland Crab Chowder or the house’s French Onion Soup with provolone and Gruyere. Indulge in fresh oysters and clams from the raw bar, then treat yourself to an entree such as Jambalaya grilled chicken with crawfish and baby shrimp, or Max’s Crab Cakes with Asian pear slaw and whole-grain rice. If you’re not in the mood for seafood, the kitchen can prepare a grilled filet mignon, Porterhouse pork chop, cracked pepper rib eye steak or grilled tortillas.
Max’s Seafood Café has several specials and events going on throughout the week. On Sunday, there is an all-day $6 Happy Hour. On Saturday, Happy Hour lasts from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and on Monday through Friday it’s from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm. The selection typically includes Chincoteagues, Holy Grails, Blue Points and Cape May Salts.
There is a long tradition of live music at Max’s Seafood Café. Every Friday night, beginning at 7:30, the live entertainment begins, usually featuring Smash Palace or The Hooters. On Saturdays, other music artists take up their spots by the bar and regale diners with pleasant, toe-tapping tunes.
