Wish Upon A Pastry Crafts Custom Sugar Cookies & More

Bergen County’s Midland Park is now home to a new kind of bakery. Wish Upon A Pastry is a custom bakery, meaning most things they sell are custom ordered. In particular, Co-owner Michelle Micek, along with her fiancée Torre Liebchen, specialize in Disney-themed products and treats.

For instance, Wish Upon A Pastry sells Disney park-scented candles, plus decorated sugar cookies and cakes. They even play Disney music in the bakery. “We make some people feel like they’re in the parks,” Michelle says. Further cementing their love for Disney, the couple actually got engaged at Magic Kingdom in March 2021; with a wedding in the works for August 2022 taking place in Orlando. Of course, they can make custom treats to match any theme.

Anything Your Heart Desires

Wish Upon A Pastry expertly crafts decorated royal icing sugar cookies and custom cakes for events. “Custom orders are how we got started, and the main source of our business,” Michelle explains. “We pride ourselves in everything looking and tasting good.” As a result, they don’t use fondant in the bakery.

They also sell bake-your-own cinnamon buns, an already popular choice. This allows patrons to purchase cinnamon buns, a container of cream cheese frosting, and seasonal sprinkles. The package also comes with a direction card for proper storage and baking at home. In addition, Wish Upon A Pastry offers dome desserts, French macarons, mini tarts, and variations of Pop-Tarts; as well as “cakesicles,” a popular treat with kids.

Graduation Cookies

For those looking for dairy free and vegan desserts, Wish Upon A Pastry offers homemade ice creams. “They are recipes that we have worked very hard on, and the tastes and textures are incredible,” Michelle says. At the moment, the owners truly hand make every item (as they are the only employees). Click here to place a custom order.

About Wish Upon A Pastry

The couple began baking on the side, mainly for friends and family. Then one day, they made a box of cookies for a neighbor’s daughter, as a birthday gift. The family was so happy that they shared the cookies on social media, and that’s when people began placing orders. At first, they offered inexpensive contactless delivery. But they quickly outgrew their home kitchen, and decided to invest in themselves and open a bakery. As for the location, Michelle says Midland Park seemed like the best fit. “We honestly thought Midland Park was a town with great access for multiple towns, which is why we chose it.”

Owners Michelle Micek & Torre Liebchen.

Michelle has been a home baker for most of her life, but spent three years as a restaurant pastry chef. Meanwhile, Torre has been a savory chef his entire life. His grandparents and parents have both owned and operated restaurants. In fact, the couple actually met working together at a restaurant. So the food industry is baked into their very cores.
