Thanks to the abundance of Do It Yourself shows and the popularity of Pinterest, everyone wants to try DIY decor. As a result of this trend, wedding décor has now evolved from store bought to DIY, personalized pieces.

You can now buy chalkboard paint at virtually any hardware store. When you use this to paint a piece of wood in a frame, you can write fun, personalized messages in chalk for your wedding guests. One popular saying that is showing up all over décor sites is the message “Choose a seat, not a side; we’re all family as soon as this ceremony is done!” Place the sign at the back of your seating area, so your guests will know they can sit on either side.
Of course, you can use these easy-to-make signs for more than just telling your guests where to sit. You can also use them to point out where the reception is, where they can pick up party favors or sign your guest book or anything else you want to communicate. They’re a fun and unusual way to give directions without seeming formal.

Sending your wedding guests home with a gift is a nice gesture. After all, they gave up part of their day to make your’s special. One inexpensive way to do this is to put some coffee beans in a jar or bag or give them a bottle with mocha fixings and directions on how to make said drink in a small jar. With the coffee jar favor, you can have the words “Thank you for BEAN here!” Then, you can add “Brewing love since…” and add the year you started dating or your wedding date.
The coffee bean party favor is especially applicable if you’re having a city wedding in say New Jersey. Just about everyone lives on coffee in this part of the country, so you know your guests will appreciate the gesture. Get Creative With Your Guest Book
The traditional guest book is still applicable of course, but if you want to try something more hip and modern, consider forgoing the “Plane Jane” guest book and opt for a DIY version instead. A fingerprint guest book is one option to consider. To do this, have your guests leave colorful fingerprints on a canvas you can hang up in your home. One way to ensure this looks great is painting a tree on the canvas and then letting your guests’ fingerprints serve as the “leaves”.
Another great idea is to allow your guests to sign a huge map of the world. To make it more special, encourage guests to sign the map on a location they feel you should visit. Another neat idea is to use a framed cork board. On this, hang tiny keys and attach a small piece of paper. At the top of the board, place a sign that says, “Please share with us your key to success.” It’s a fun way to get your guests interacting with each other, to get some free advice and make them feel important.
