Stumpy’s Hatchet House Throws Eatontown Some Fun

The Tri-state area is loaded with tons of fun and unique activities; from exciting water and theme parks to theaters and venues, the Garden State has it all; including the nation’s first hatchet house. What is a hatchet house, you ask? Best of NJ visited Stumpy’s Hatchet House in Eatontown to find out.

Created by close friends Mark and Trish Oliphant and Stuart and Kelly Josberger, Stumpy’s is a project-turned-business years in the making.

The couples became friends after meeting at a party a couple of years ago, where they came up with the idea to open this Eatontown establishment after hanging around, drinking beers and playing some hatchet games at their homes.

You Can’t Axe for More

Stumpy’s, in turn, invites people for all occasions to come have a blast while eating food, sipping some cold brews and throwing hatchets. The venue – located on Meridian Road – encompasses eight separate throwing pits equipped with targets and hatchets. There are multiple games and competitions for parties to participate in, making each visit engaging and diverse.

While Stumpy’s does have its own concession stand where you can purchase snacks and drinks, as well as original merchandise, guests are encouraged to order-in and even bring their own beer and wine. Stumpy’s will even let you borrow an ice bucket to keep your beverages chilled, for a small fee.

You wouldn’t be crazy for thinking that Hatchet-throwing seems out of the ordinary – it definitely is – and while it’s a hard technique to grasp at first, it becomes insanely addicting; once you get going, the 2-hour session simply flies by. Despite the fact that Stumpy’s has only been open for a few months, it has already become a hit for bachelor and bachelorette parties, birthday parties, company team-building exercises and even dates.
