Pierogi Cafe Serves Polish Cuisine & Coffee in Waldwick

Bergen County has a new Polish cafe specializing in homemade pierogi, fresh coffee, and more. Pierogi Cafe is now open in Waldwick, and guests can expect fresh ingredients and authentic Polish flavors. As a cafe, they also make – and sell – their own coffee beans.

Pierogi Cafe is a modest 1,200 square-foot space that seats 16 guests indoors. “It’s a modern, relaxing café setting,” says owner Marta Wasilewski. For instance, you can cozy up in a comfortable chair by the fireplace; or otherwise grab a seat on a bar stool overlooking the kitchen. You’ll also almost certainly notice the Waldwick Gallery on one of the walls. This section of the cafe features illustrations by local children.

Fresh Polish Food & More

Everything at Pierogi Cafe is made using fresh ingredients. “It’s a mix of old-world tastes with a new twist,” Marta says. “All pierogi are handmade, the old-fashioned way, by experienced Polish women,” she adds. However, Marta likes to switch things up with new fillings every now and again. In particular, the cafe offers a vegan pierogi filled with sweet potato, broccoli, and lentil. But that’s not all, they also have dessert pierogi as well. You can satisfy you sweet tooth with either strawberry, blueberry, or even apple cinnamon pierogi. At the moment, Marta says patrons are loving the potato cheese pierogi and signature spinach feta pierogi. Click here to see the full menu.

In addition to pierogi, you’ll also find traditional Polish soups, pastries, grilled kielbasa, and stuffed cabbages. Marta says her favorite menu item is, in fact, red borscht. Daily specials rotate, but one favorite so far is white borscht and bigos, a traditional Polish recipe. Guests frequently request this dish which Marta describes as a hunter’s stew, with sauerkraut, mushrooms, kielbasa, pork, and onions. Meanwhile, Pierogi Cafe makes coffee beverages using their own coffee beans, which you can purchase at the cafe.

About the Owner

Pierogi Cafe is her first business, though she admits she doesn’t have any restaurant experience. “But cooking is my passion,” she says. “I love to challenge myself. Since I cook daily for my four kids, I’ve decided to bring Polish food to Waldwick and share traditional Polish recipes.”
