The 10 Best Central Jersey Diners

New Jersey is the undisputed diner capital of the world, and Central Jersey is it’s beating (sometimes greasy) heart. Jersey natives all know there is a very specific kind of magic that happens when you slide into a vinyl booth, flip through a laminated menu the size of a novel, and then just order the pork roll, egg, and cheese anyway.

During the early post-COVID era, the best parts of diners slowly began to fade. “Open 24 hours” became “open late” and then became “closes at 9pm” much to our collective dismay. But thankfully, the landscape is finally shifting and a number of Jersey diners are now once again proudly open 24/7. So we can once again satisfy our cravings for massive burgers, bottomless cups of coffee, and thick slices of baklava cheesecake. From family-owned classic diners to iconic train car destinations, these are The 10 Best Central Jersey Diners of 2026.

Central Jersey Diners

Featured from Middlesex County:
The Edison Diner

Edison Diner Omelette

Where: 101 US-1, Edison
Details: The Edison Diner is an old-school diner owned by the same family for over 50 years. Current Owner Evan Kalambakas maintains his family’s tradition of providing fresh Full-Course Entrees, made from scratch every day. Menu items include “Diner Greats” like the Smothered Steak Sandwich. This 8oz sirloin steak comes on toasted garlic bread with mushrooms, peppers, onions, and melted mozzarella cheese. Another fan favorite is the Sicilian Chicken Sandwich with grilled chicken breast, marinara sauce, and melted mozzarella cheese. But fajitas are their house specialty, featuring a half pound of sizzling steak or chicken strips, with optional shrimp combos. Their selection of Late Night Specials includes the Jumbo Italian Hot Dog, Pulled Pork Carnitas, Authentic Fish and Chips, and their original creation, the Cyprian Stuffed Breadcone. Don’t forget to try their old-fashioned malted milkshake. All-day Breakfast features hits like Pasture-Raised Three Egg Loaded Skillet and Authentic Irish Breakfast Platter.

Golden Star Diner Interior

Where: 80 US-202, Ringoes
Details: Like so many NJ family-owned diners, Golden Star takes pride in their customer service. The diner recently celebrated 10 years in business, first opened in 2015 by father and son duo Dimitrios “Jimmy” Koukourdelis and Telemahos “Tele” Koukourdelis. As partners, Jimmy takes an old-school approach to running the diner, while Tele brings a modern spin to the menu. Their expansive breakfast selection features nearly a dozen Benedicts, and over two dozen specialty omelettes. We recommend the Jersey Style Benedict with two poached eggs and pork roll over an English muffin. Other classic breakfast options include pancakes, waffles, wraps, French toast, and skillets like the Corned Beef Hash Skillet. They also have tons of sandwiches, burgers, and authentic Greek specialty platters like chicken/beef gyro and spinach pies. All desserts are baked on-site, including their popular cheesecakes and Seven Layer Cake. The Golden Star Diner is open seven days a week from 7am – 8pm, and is available for any-size event catering.

Lobster Roll from Prestige Diner

Where: 1318 Springfield Ave, New Providence
Details: The Prestige Diner is nearly 60 years old. First founded in 1967, the diner still continues a tradition of classic American food alongside a few modern twists. Of course, that means serving a full menu of breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day long. From their famous burgers to Lobster Mac ‘n Cheese, the diverse menu keeps regulars coming back week after week. For “breakfast”, their indulgent Oreo Waffle is a showstopper. This Belgian waffle is filled with Oreo cookies and topped with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. In the mood for something more traditional? Try the Croque Madame, homemade Challah bread topped with Black Forest Ham, imported Swiss cheese, choice of egg, and Holandaise. For lunch or dinner, we recommend the Bourbon Street Burger, an homage to New Orleans featuring a Cajun spice rub with cheese, grilled onion, lettuce, and tomato. Be sure to stop in during special events, like their Oktoberfest menu. Prestige Diner is open daily from 7am – 10pm.

Broad Street Diner

Where: Hamilton
Details: Broad Street Diner is one of few remaining diners to stay open “late” (sometimes til midnight). Like any exceptional diner, their menu is a mix of international dishes, traditional favorites, and contemporary twists. The stars of their breakfast all day menu are the Belgium waffles and traditional Hotcakes. We recommend the waffle with two eggs and turkey bacon for a hearty meal. For something different, try a stuffed seafood option (shrimp, flounder, or tilapia) with crabmeat stuffing. For dessert, it’s gotta be The Phillip Arthur sundae!

Clinton Station Diner

Where: Clinton
Details: The once-flourishing-but-now-rare 24/7 diner lives on at Clinton Station. Between their nationwide shipping (via Goldbelly) and never-ending hours, Clinton Station is literally always ready to serve. (They even have a drive-thru!) Besides classic diner options, Clinton Station is also known for their massive Burger Challenges. A variety of behemoth burgers are available to challenge solo or with up to 9 friends. As for the regular menu, we recommend the Primavera Omelette, Italian Sausage Sandwich or Athenian Moussaka.

Ewing Diner

Where: Ewing
Details: As NJ diners continue to rebuild themselves back to form, Ewing Diner is reembracing 24 hour dining. They are now open 24 hours from Wednesday through Sunday, as well as 6am – 11pm on Monday and Tuesday. With a special breakfast menu until 10am, daily specials, and an all-day lunch and dinner menu, they offer a true diner experience. Menu highlights include the Cinnamon Raisin French Toast, Pork Roll Cheeseburger, Avocado Club Triple Decker, and Vodka Rigatoni with Chicken. Just try to save room for the Baklava Cheesecake.

Park Ave Diner

Where: South Plainfield
Details: The Park Ave Diner is open 24/7, offering a reliable diner experience any time. With breakfast all day, fresh seafood, daily specials, and even alcoholic beverages, they truly have something for everyone. While they don’t have any direct connection to the bygone era of famous grease trucks at Rutgers, the Park Ave Diner has a selection of Fat Sandwiches reminiscent of these classic overstuffed meals on bread. For instance, the Fat Buffalo packs buffalo chicken fingers, French fries, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, and bacon on a hero.

Somerset Diner

Where: Somerset
Details: One of the last standing 24/7 diners in New Jersey, the Somerset Diner is far from an aging relic. In fact, they make every effort to keep current by offering amenities like high-speed WiFi and Outlet/USB charging. Their menu includes daily lunch and dinner specials, as well as breakfast favorites and more. Popular picks include the Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Sandwich, classic Chicken Gyro, and the Somerset Sloppy Joe. (The sandwich, not the burger.) Rutgers students and Senior citizens receive 10% off their meals with a valid ID.

Summit Diner

Where: Summit
Details: Summit Diner is about as retro as it gets. This cash-only spot serves diner staples out of a train car. Open early morning (5:00 am) through late afternoon (3:00 or 4:00 pm), they specialize in breakfast and lunch options. Their signature breakfast platters combine eggs, pancakes, or French toast with a choice of breakfast meat for a hearty meal. We also recommend the Chicken Salad club sandwich. Meanwhile, their assortment of classic diner desserts includes bread pudding, muffins, danishes, cheesecake, and pound cakes.

White Rose Diner

Where: Linden
Details: If there’s a trifecta of diner menu staples, it’s probably the trio of burgers, breakfasts, and Taylor ham sandwiches. As it happens, White Rose Diner is a fan-favorite for all three. Owner and Chef Rich Belfer is famous for his sliders and Taylor Ham offerings, garnering national attention. (Even Chef Bobby Flay is a fan!) Other standout menu items include Catfish Nuggets, Corned Beef Hash, and their Hot & Spicy Chicken Wings. As for the burgers, we recommend either the California Cheese Burger or signature Jersey Burger.
