Sun Harbor Seafood and Grill Lands in Barnegat

If typical travel methods are not your style, Sun Harbor Seafood and Grill in Barnegat is the spot for you. Of course, you can reach the new restaurant by land, but you can also reach it by sea; the eatery offers 14 slips to dock either a boat or jet ski. Once you arrive, you can choose between dining at Sun Harbor or eating right on your boat.

Open since June, Sun Harbor replaces a sandwich shop, says General Manager Joshua Ward. He is also responsible for creating the menu. Meanwhile, Owners Richard and Kim Fieramosca are not new names to locals, as they also own a nearby marina.

Quite A View from Sun Harbor

The family-friendly restaurant features an indoor upper deck with about 88 seats. The outdoor lower deck seats 150, in addition to a 20- to 30-seat tiki bar. Throughout Sun Harbor, you’ll find canvass and bamboo décor. “We can’t open upstairs, but we’re holding our own,” Ward says, in regards to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is thanks to the covered, large lower deck, which provides patrons protection from the sun and mild inclement weather.

Something else Sun Harbor provides is an unbeatable view. According to Ward, the restaurant offers clear views of the Barnegat Lighthouse and other towns on Long Beach Island.

A Menu Made for Mateys

The Sun Harbor menu boasts 70-percent seafood options and 30-percent chicken, steak, and chops with Cajun-Creole influences. “It adds more spice to the menu,” Ward believes. Crab bites and calamari are popular starters, but the grilled shrimp taco is flying off the menu. Other current favorites include the steak sandwich and dock burger (with Wagyu beef), as well as the Diver scallops; the latter are pan-seared in house butter, served over a bed of Marque Choux and drizzled in house balsamic dressing. They also offer a kids’ menu. Click here to see the full menu.

However, it’s not a pirate’s life until you visit the full-service bar, where you’ll find the popular Painkiller drink; this is a mix of rum, orange juice, and coconut. Beer lovers will also enjoy the selection of basics, plus local craft beer from spots like Ship Bottom Brewery.
