Sirenetta Brings Coastal Italian Cuisine to Hoboken

There’s a new seafood restaurant and raw bar in uptown Hoboken. Sirenetta – which means “little mermaid” in Italian – is the sister restaurant to Sorellina Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar; which you will find right across the street. Though the menu and setting are very different, patrons can expect the same level of first-class hospitality.

Sirenetta seats 150 guests at full capacity inside a 3,565 square-foot space. In fact, there are two distinct sections of the restaurant. “The front, which is the main dining room of the restaurant, is a bright, open space; with a mix of modern and art deco accents,” says owner Gabi Lombardi. Meanwhile, the back area cocktail lounge, “features darker tones, low lighting, and exposed brick to give off speakeasy vibes.”

What to Expect at Sirenetta

Sirenetta also offers lounge seating “where guests can enjoy a nightcap after dining,” Gabi explains. Windows wrap around the entire dining room and open from floor to table height, to provide maximum airflow. There is a bit of sidewalk seating outdoors for now, but they plan to add a parklet by 2021.

Gabi has plenty of experience to match her role at Sirenetta. She completed culinary and sommelier courses at the International Culinary Center in New York City; and then went on to become a certified sommelier. She opened her first restaurant, Sorellina, at 25 years old.

A Sea of Food

Sirenetta uses local and seasonal ingredients to create a seafood centric, coastal concept menu with Italian flair. For instance, the menu features a large raw bar selection; the daily raw bar includes a rotation of east and west coast oysters, tiger prawns, king crab legs, littleneck clams, smoked mussels, and more. You’ll also find seasonal crudo, appetizers, and a variety of pastas made from scratch. At the moment, popular entrees include swordfish milanese as well as monkfish cheeks. Meanwhile, meat eaters can enjoy pork porterhouse and prime rib options.

The wine list features boutique producers from Italy’s coastal regions, with a focus on sparkling and white wines. The unique cocktail list features a Mule Bar, with four varieties on the classic Moscow Mule cocktail. Their signature cocktail is the Empress of the Sea, however, made with Empress Gin, smoked coconut, and egg whites. Then there’s the popular Panama Canal, made with mezcal, tequila, pineapple, and chipotle bitters.
