The name for Saffron, an Indian restaurant in Red Bank, has a simple and easy to understand meaning behind it. In nature, Saffron is a dark yellow material that comes from fresh blossoms. The spice adds a golden color and flavor to dishes that use it during preparation. The ingredient appears in many signature meals the restaurant prepares.
The recently-renovated restaurant has a vintage yet modern feel, with gold accents highlighting its 150-year-old exposed brick. Owner Arita Jogi says guests will also find hand-painted murals and hand-selected marble tables. Saffron seats 65 diners indoors and has a year-round patio as well. Arita and her husband, Manish, are New Jersey natives who enjoy Red Bank’s warmth, community, and atmosphere.

Thoughtfully-Prepared Meals
The owners feel that every cuisine has a story to tell. They compare their menu to a road trip for the palate. Dishes are made using modern culinary techniques, artful presentation, and a contemporary design. They use certified halal and kosher meats, and offer organic, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, halal, and kosher options.

She recommends trying the tandoori octopus, which is marinated in yogurt and served with a mushroom fondue sauce. Arita also suggests the Sea Bass Goan Curry – with clams, white vinegar, onion, tomato, and coconut sauce with lemon rice. While she raves about the “amazing” pulled tandoori chicken bao buns, her favorite menu item is actually the butter chicken. This gluten-free smoked chicken comes with their signature red pepper tomato sauce and a side of saffron rice.
About the Business
Saffron sources their seafood from a local fish market to ensure freshness. Arita says they offer “elevated Indian cuisine with bold flavors incorporating surprising ingredients you won’t associate with the cuisine otherwise.”

Besides owning a business in New Jersey, Arita and Manish also own another location in Milwaukee. This location also focuses on modern Indian cuisine.
