The latest restaurant in Richland mixes modern technology with art deco décor to bring guests back to the 1920s. While the approach to service is new, the atmosphere and menu options feel tried-and-true. Taken together, Restaurant 1920 feels different from everything else in the area.
The 1,000-square foot space boasts a homey vibe and art deco décor. “We wanted to have as much of a 1920s type of feel as possible; while still making the space feel warm and welcoming,” says Annemarie DePasquale, marketing manager and content strategist. They can seat 100 guests indoors, with seasonal outdoor seating for 20 on the back deck beneath a gazebo. They plan to host outdoor events during the summer.

Self Service
The most noteworthy difference for Restaurant 1920 is that they don’t have servers. Instead, patrons order their dinner, mocktails, or desserts through their phone whenever they’re ready. The BYOB restaurant provides free Wi-Fi and QR codes at each table. In case of technical difficulties, or for guests paying with cash, the staff behind the bar can offer assistance.
“This system is what allows us to keep the cost of menu items low while ensuring each and every ingredient is high quality,” Annemarie says. Plus, not having servers means there is nobody to tip. “So, you only pay for what you order. Feedback on this system has been positive.”

Prohibition-Era Favorites
The menu at Restaurant 1920 features familiar staple dishes alongside creative seasonal creations. Dishes are meant to be affordable and have generous portion sizes. All orders placed in-house also include coffee and iced tea.
Popular items include the Prohibition stew (the owners’ favorite dish) and chicken Parmesan. The $20 stew is a hearty Guinness variety with beef short ribs, potatoes, carrots, and peas, served with a biscuit. Meanwhile, the chicken parm comes with choice of pasta (homemade linguine, capellini, penne, or gluten-free pasta) for $18.
