There’s a new eatery in Bloomfield offering authentic Peruvian meals. Qenko Organic Cuisine (aka Qenko Chicken) brings unique Latin American food to Essex County. In particular, the menu boasts dishes with classic, traditional flavors infused with twists typically only found in Peru.
The 2,000-square foot Qenko Organic Cuisine can seat 35 diners inside. “Our indoor décor is a more modern city vibe; with greenery and a natural lit atmosphere with large front windows,” says Co-owner Eric Sosa. The restaurant also plans to add outdoor sidewalk seating for up to 10 guests for the summer.

The Menu
“Our main objective is to bring a flavorful and rich cuisine to the area that has not yet been captured,” says co-owner Maria Verdezoto. These signature big and bold flavors – part of traditional Peruvian meals – allow Qenko Organic Cuisine to serve healthy, whole food. For instance, menu highlights include the Papa a la Huancaina, sliced baked potato topped with their homemade creamy yellow sauce.
Meanwhile, the owners recommend the Lomo Saltado entree (sauteed onions and tomatoes with fries served with rice and protein); as well as the Chaufa Rice (Peruvian fried rice with eggs and scallions and choice of protein; made with either quinoa or white rice). Other popular items range from Tallarines Verdes and Pescado a lo Macho to Ceviche and Arroz Con Mariscos. The latter is Peru’s version of seafood paella. However, it’s difficult for Eric to choose a favorite dish. “Our menu is very diverse, therefore it is too difficult to choose just one item; everything is so flavorful and has its own Peruvian character and flare,” he says.
About the Owners
Maria, an entrepreneur originally from Ecuador, has over 15 years of experience in the restaurant business. Likewise, Eric is a Peruvian restaurateur with an extensive background in family-owned Peruvian restaurants. In fact, the duo previously owned a restaurant together in the nearby town of Verona.
