La Casetta means “little house” in Italian. For La Casetta Italian Bistro in Ocean View, their “house” has had many faces over the last century. But the owners of this new venue have put countless hours into building, and restoring, the current property. After so much hard work, they’re ready to serve their friends and neighbors a home-cooked meal.
Open since November 2019, La Casetta replaces the long-vacant former home of the Red Sky Café. The inside is completely remodeled with new floors, tables, chairs, paint, and decor.
“We have a casual vibe, which is why we named it a bistro,” says Nicole Steelman; Nicole owns the restaurant along with her husband Matt.
The couple has about 10 years of food industry experience, owning and operating everything from a sub shop and bar/restaurant to mobile food trucks. Nicole describes the atmosphere of La Casetta as cozy, with decor that mixes grays and white.
In addition to their indoor seating, the Steelmans plan to open a comfy outdoor dining area for lunch and dinner; this outdoor option will be open during the spring, summer, and fall months, weather permitting.
Little House, Big Flavor
The small spot seats 40-50 and offers homemade Italian cuisine at fair prices. Signature dishes include homemade gnocchi with your choice from one of three sauces; Gorgonzola walnut cream sauce, Tuscan meat sauce, or basil-pomodoro sauce.
Nicole also recommends the veal or chicken La Casetta; either choice is sautéed with shrimp, Kalamata olives, oven-dried tomatoes, and crumbled feta cheese in a white wine sauce. Meanwhile, their scampi al tequila is homemade paccheri pasta with jumbo shrimp, garlic, and peas in a tequila basil-rose sauce. After your entree, dessert options feature homemade desserts such as tiramisu or crème brulee.
You can visit La Casetta at 3054 Route 9 in Ocean View. They are open Friday – Sunday from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm, but they plan to expand their hours in Spring; as well as offer lunch service and open on select weekdays. To learn more, visit the website or give them a call.
