2015 Hoboken Italian Festival

The first day of the four-day Hoboken Italian Festival kicked off on Thursday, September 10th. Despite the intermittent thunderstorms, nearly all of the vendors courageously gathered at Frank Sinatra Park to provide their patrons with mouthwatering food, delicious desserts, and an enjoyable evening.

Those who challenged the rain and took a trip out to the festival were able to immerse themselves is the lively Italian culture that couldn’t be deflated by just a little bad weather. The rainy and humid conditions were not enough to erase the smiles from the faces of the cooks, vendors, or even the festival-goers.

A Trip to the Hoboken Italian Festival

Besides food and drinks, children and their families could enjoy the rides and games on offer; such as the rock climbing wall stoically erect at one end of the festival. There is also a pitching machine to test the velocity of your hardest fastball; as well as a Water Works stand provided by Paladin Amusements, and a few small children’s rides for younger guests.

2015’s Hoboken Italian Festival will conclude on Sunday, September 13th. So if you missed yesterday’s festivities, don’t worry: you have three more opportunities to take in the festivities. You can visit Frank Sinatra Park, enjoy some music, grab an Italian sausage, cheesesteak, or some pizza. Before you go, take a seat and marvel at the magnificent view of the New York City skyline across the Hudson River.

Saturday, the 12th, is considered the “Feast Day” of the festival. There will be a procession with the statue of the Madonna Dei Martiri, for whom the feast is dedicated, that will be paraded throughout the streets of Hoboken.

Francesca Tataranni and her husband Saverio come to the festival every year. “It’s been a Molfettese tradition for many, many years,” says Francesca, who grew up in Gravina, not far from Molfetta, Italy. “The feast is wonderful because it’s a great tradition, it brings everyone together, and everyone has a great time.”

Saturday’s events will also include fireworks and an oddly amusing cannoli eating contest. So be sure not to miss the food, religious observances and entertainment the Hoboken Italian Festival has to offer.
