Happy Scoop Doles Out Dollops of Joy in Voorhees

The motto at Happy Scoops in Voorhees is “Making every scoop happy,” a fitting tagline to match their name. They stand apart from other shops by sourcing their ice cream from Bassetts Ice Cream inside Philadelphia’s Reading Terminal Market. Bassets is said to use healthier ingredients than other local ice cream suppliers.

The 1,600-square foot Happy Scoops originally opened in 2023, but is now under new management. The ice cream shop can seat 17 inside and has colorful sidewalk benches outdoors year-round. “We’ve created a warm and cozy atmosphere that feels just like home,” says Owner Taylor Castorina. “Our decor is inviting and personable, making it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy your favorite treats.”

Taylor redecorates Happy Scoops seasonally, painting the windows and enlisting a local artist to help with their wall decor. “We want our decor to be inviting while also sharing a connection to our community by getting others involved.”

Sundaes, Shakes, & More

Happy Scoops mixes high quality ice cream with a variety of fun and creative treats. Their menu includes unique sundaes, rich milkshakes, and specialty cones. Their signature Sno Blasts are soft serve ice cream mixed with a topping. Likewise, Sweet Stacks feature three layers of soft serve and another three layers of toppings. They also make specials that celebrate different holidays, seasons, and sports events.

Vanilla Ice Cream Cone

Taylor’s favorite menu item is the salt spreader sundae. This sweet concoction mixes salted caramel ice cream with Twix, chocolate chips, caramel syrup, and hot fudge. To finish, she tops it with whipped cream and a cherry.

About Happy Scoops

Taylor and Co-owner Monique Ervin are sisters and the daughters of Salvatore Castorina. They have both lived in South Jersey for years and thought Voorhees was an ideal location for Happy Scoops. Taylor has a small background in the restaurant business, as she is a former Chick-Fil-A manager. But in truth, Taylor never planned to open an ice cream shop. In fact, it was her father that bought the space. He dreamed of owning a small business after his retirement, planning to run the business with his family.

However, he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and passed away five weeks after purchasing the shop. While receiving treatment, his children took over the renovations in order to see his vision through. “Although our father lost his fight to cancer, we are committed to keeping this business to honor him and carry on his legacy,” Taylor says. “Every scoop we serve is a tribute to his dream and the love he put into this shop.”

In fact, all the names on the menu refer to him and his passions: Classic cars and motorcycles.
