The co-owner of GoFish in Bogota, Mark Jeffries, used the challenges of COVID to pursue his dreams. After being laid off from his job of 20-plus years in corporate America, he decided to open a restaurant. Now, he serves handcrafted, premium seafood dishes in Bergen County, including original creations and unique twists on classics.
“Cooking is something I’ve always loved, so I decided to go for it,” Mark says. Jeffries co-owns the spot with Geisi Segura, a chef with 20 years of industry experience. “We’re two local guys who followed our dream,” Mark says (both are Bergen County residents).

Seafood with a Twist
GoFish is a 750-square foot eatery, but Mark hopes to expand the space soon to offer table service. They chose Bogota as their location because “there are no other seafood restaurants around here,” according to Mark. But even non-seafood fans will find something on the menu, including double burgers and jalapeno popper pasta. Likewise, vegetarians can order the shrimp Caesar salad or the veggie boil.
Sauces, marinades, and more are all homemade at GoFish. The shrimp burger is a fan favorite, using hand-chopped shrimp mixed with herbs and formed into a patty. It’s then topped with lettuce, tomato, red onion, and their homemade lemon dill mayo and served on a brioche bun. “It has a unique flavor and people have never heard of this kind of burger,” Mark says.
Other popular items include the salmon burger and sugar cane shrimp, as well as City Island Basket; the latter is tempura battered tiger shrimp and fried whiting. They also serve chicken wings with three homemade sauce options to choose from.
After-school Specials
GoFish even caters to the kids walking home from the nearby schools. In fact, they serve “After-school specials” such as chicken fingers, a chicken BLT, and burgers, all served with fries. “I’m trying to appeal to everybody,” Mark says.
