Jersey City's Bike Hub is Changing Children's Lives

Behzad Pasdar, owner and operator of The Bike Hub, located in Jersey City, opened his store on May 1, 2016. Like most businesses, the first few months had its ups and downs. But all that changed on July 14, 2016, at 6:17 pm, when Mr. Pasdar posted a picture on Facebook with a simple caption: “I asked these kids if they had a bike, they said ‘no.’ So I gave them one. They didn’t believe me, until I said goodbye and walked in the store.” Within an hour of Pasdar’s Facebook post, The Bike Hub had over 850 likes and 75 shares. The comments were amazing:
“Beautiful moment for that family.”
“What a giving man.”
“Great memories, something those kids will never forget.”
“We need more business like that, not worried about making a dollar but about giving back to the community.”
“I don’t know who owns this store, but I am going there.“

What started out as a simple, giving gesture has led to the Bike Hub’s Children’s Project. The Project provides bikes for kids under 5 years old who normally would not have the opportunity to purchase one. “The community has really rallied around this cause,” Pasdar told Best of NJ. “The landlord, Mr. Adel, let us use the building next door to store bikes, and North American Cycles have provided us with great discounts on our purchases.”
When Apollo Jets, a Manhattan-based Jet chartering company, heard about The Bike Hub, they reached out to Pasdar and donated enough to purchase 41 bicycles and 41 helmets. Dean Giasi, the president of Apollo Jets said, “I felt compelled to donate because this is what our company has always done, whether it’s paying for a basketball court or donating money so that children can get a bike. It feels great to give them an opportunity.” Pasdar is also working with local organizations in Jersey City, like New City Kids and the Salvation Army, to help find these bikes a new home.
The Bike Hub
Pasdar resides in Jersey City with his wife and 3 kids and has been an avid cyclist for over 20 years. While raising his kids, he noticed there weren’t any Bike shops in the neighborhood. Now, The Bike Hub sells top of the line vehicles with brand names such as FOCUS, Jamis and KHS bikes. They also have an on-premise repair shop.
Pasdar takes great pride in interacting with the community, and his main goal is to provide his customers with great service by treating them as extended members of his family. “When I was 12 years old, I got a bike for Christmas and it was a memory I will never forget. I want to give kids the same joy that I had.”
