Fashion Meets Fundraising at 5th Annual NJ Deaf Senior Housing Fashion Show

Watch the evolution of fashion while supporting the deaf community at the 5th Annual New Jersey Deaf Senior Housing Organization Fashion Show and Gift Basket Auction on Saturday, Oct. 14. The fashion show will take the audience on a trip through the decades from the 1920s to the 2000s at the Ocean Place Resort & Spa in Long Branch.

Twenty deaf adult and child models will walk the runway at the event wearing clothes donated by local clothing stores to demonstrate how fashion has changed over time.
The mother and brother of model Nyle Dimarco, Donna DiMarco and Nico DiMarco, will host the event. Nyle is a deaf activist and was the first deaf winner of both America’s Next Top Model (cycle 22) and Dancing with the Stars (season 22).

The Sound of Compassion

The purpose of the event is to bring the deaf community and residents togethe; all to raise enough funds to build the first housing and adult community for the deaf. (As well as the hard of hearing, deaf-blind and late-deafened).

The New Jersey Deaf Senior Housing Organization has a simple goal for this adult housing community; to end the isolation that many members of the deaf community face. The housing project will help those in the deaf community interact with others by offering group activities, lectures, American sign language classes and other social opportunities. It will also be equipped with the latest technology in electronic communication equipment.

Funds from the ticket sales, raffle tickets and gift basket auctions will go directly to the funding of the housing facility. The organization’s goal for 2017 is to double last year’s funds and raise $40,000.

But this is more than just a fashion show and gift basket auction; a three-course luncheon menu with four entrée choices and a cash bar will also be available at the event.
