They say laughter is the best medicine, and we can all use a little of that these days. When it comes to COVID-19 it’s tough to stay positive, but entertainment and hobbies can help. For instance, many comedians such as Mario Cantone are on a mission to spread laughter during these tough times.

Cantone joins host Steve Adubato for this episode of One-on-One with Steve Adubato. The two mainly discuss how Cantone is adapting to life at home during the public health crisis; as well as some of Cantone’s roles and projects.

Mario Cantone Talks COVID-19 & Staying Home

Cantone is one of five children from an Italian-American family. A natural entertainer, he excels at impressions. As such, his comedy shows largely consist of celebrity impersonations. His act also includes stories and anecdotes of his family and being Italian-American. He is known for his Broadway debut in 1995’s Tony Award–winning play Love! Valour! Compassion! His also has many film and TV credits; perhaps most notable is his role as Anthony Marentino in the HBO series Sex and the City.

Even during the pandemic, Cantone stays busy at home. His husband, Jerry Dixon, is a musical theater director and runs a theater in Seattle, Washington. Of course, theater management currently operates via Zoom, as they advocate for staying home whenever possible.

“I love being home,” Cantone says. “I’m like, ‘Good, I don’t have to be around anybody. I don’t have to go anywhere, I don’t have to talk to anybody, I don’t have to do things,’” Cantone jokingly adds. “Then slowly I started to do some things here and there.”

As conditions improve, Cantone looks forward to future TV and other projects. However, he expresses that it’s important to be mindful and “wear your masks!”
