Hike for Young Professionals: Turkey Chaser . November 27 . Hibernia

November 27, 2009 in Fall Events, Morris County, North New Jersey, November 27, November Events, Thanksgiving, Uncategorized by New Jersey Young Professionals

On Thanksgiving you eat a bird, the day after you chase after birds! This hike is for those who want to avoid the malls and the road rage while working off some post-Thanksgiving weight gain.

Grab your cameras and binoculars (if you have them) and join us for our yearly hike up to the Hawk Watch. Based on the migration schedule we should be able to spot several different types of hawks and if we are lucky we will even see some wild turkeys (no promises but we are going to try).

Food Drive Contest . November . Atlantic Highlands

Health and Fitness

Health and Fitness

November is Thanksgiving month and Eastpointe Health & Fitness members are giving thanks by donating food and money to the AACC Food Pantry in Atlantic Highlands. The club will give away a free one-month membership, free Personal Training Session and free massage to the highest donator.

Eastpointe Health & Fitness is running a month-long food drive to support the AACC Food Pantry in Atlantic Highlands. The Food Pantry, located at the United Methodist Church in Atlantic Highlands, is now helping 300 needy families in the area, up from 200 last year. As the economic recession continues, more and more families are falling below the poverty line. The rising costs of living compounded by the rising unemployment are making it even harder for needy families to make ends meet. Most of the families the AACC Food Pantry supports have young children, who without the food donations, would not receive the nutrition they need.

“As a local business, we want to help others in need in the community. We’ve been running this food drive for the last three years, and our members have always generously given. This year we want to encourage them to give even more by holding a contest and donating a free membership, free Personal Training session and free massage to the highest giver”, says Paul Mazzella, owner of Eastpointe Health & Fitness.

The Food Pantry is collecting non-perishable food items such as canned foods, cereals and juice, and is also accepting checks which it will use to buy highly needed food items in bulk.

Club members as well as local residents may drop off their donations at Eastpointe Health & Fitness, Eastpointe (CVS) Shopping Center, 2399 Highway 36, Atlantic Highlands. More information may be obtained online at: www.EastpointeHealthandFitness.com/food-drive.

“Four Seasons Lodge” Screening at The ShowRoom
In association with the Asbury Park Film Initiative, The ShowRoom will screen “Four Seasons Lodge”. In an inspiring and startling documentary, a remarkable tribe whose members are fast disappearing come together for one final summer in the Catskill Mountains, where they cook, gamble, fight, flirt, and dance – they’re Holocaust Survivors with a captivating joie de vivre and a bracing sense of humor. From the darkness of Europe’s death camps to the lush mountains of New York’s Catskills, “Four Seasons Lodge” portrays the final season for a community of Holocaust survivors who come together each summer to celebrate their lives. Directed by New York Times journalist Andrew Jacobs, beautifully photographed by a team of cinematographers including Albert Maysles (GIMME SHELTER, GREY GARDENS), the film is a counterintuitive film about the Holocaust, one that captures the Lodgers’ intoxicating passion for living, in bracing contrast to lives harrowed by loss.

“Seraphine” Screening at The ShowRoom
Seraphine is the story of Seraphine Louis aka Seraphine de Senlis (Yolande Moreau), a simple and profoundly devout housekeeper who in 1905 at age 41, self-taught and began painting brilliantly colorful canvases. In 1912 Wilhelm Uhde (Ulrich Tukur), a German art critic and collector discovered her paintings while she worked for him as a maid in his house in Senlis outside Paris. A moving and unexpected relationship develops between the avant-garde art dealer and the visionary cleaning lady leading to Seraphine’s work being grouped with other painters ‚ the so-called ‚”Sacred Heart Painters” – with acclaimed shows in France, elsewhere in Europe and eventually at New York’s MOMA . Martin Provost’s poignant portrait of this now largely forgotten painter is a testament to the mysteries of creativity and the resilience of one woman’s spirit. A sleeper hit in France last fall, SERAPHINE went on to a surprise win of the Best Picture and Best Actress for Yolande Moreau along with five other awards at the Cesars – the French Academy Awards.
