The Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey Thrift & Consignment Shop in Manasquan held its grand re-opening last month. The turnout has been a powerful reminder of community response and support. Otherwise known as VNA Thrift Shop, the program enlists the aid of volunteers to run their daily operations.
“Our volunteers come from all over Monmouth and Ocean counties, and they are incredibly dedicated. We wanted to make their experience more satisfying as well,” says Thrift Shop manager Renee Wehnke.
“We couldn‘t do any of this without them.”
New Look, Same Spirit
For over 60 years the shop, located at 69 Main Street in Manasquan, has been a volunteer-driven enterprise. Meanwhile, the funds support the VNA mission of providing quality home care services, hospice care and community programs for those who otherwise might not be able to afford them.
In addition, the revamped boutique, boasting a fresh chic vibe, is a special space showcasing gently used merchandise and second-hand treasures like clothing, art, and home accessories.
The Furniture Annex is the latest development of the Thrift Shop through helping hands. Likewise, a recent contribution from the Hazel Dell Foundation made it possible for the shop to purchase a truck to accept larger items and offer delivery service.
For instance, donations can range from small valuables to fragile bedroom sets.
“We have to store seasonal items in expensive warehouse space. We are hoping for another angel to provide us with free storage,” said VNA Chief Philanthropy Officer Bridget Murphy.
The VNA Thrift and Consignment Shop is open every day except Wednesdays and Sundays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. For more info about donations, consignment, or volunteer opportunities please call (732) 223-1923.
