Glitz, glamour and goodies! Those were the special features waiting for 750 women at Downtown Somerville’s “Girls’ Night Out” event. The elaborate block party kicked off at 5:00 pm and the crowd craze didn’t die down until 10:00pm. Business advocacy group, the Downtown Somerville Alliance (DSA) hosted the fun-filled event.
“Girls’ Night Out” featured an impressive display of beauty treatments, dining experiences and live entertainment along with shopping deals from more than 35 local businesses.
The DSA is a resourceful organization that helps businesses connect with their customers and build up a loyal following. The sold out event may be a good indication that the company has achieved its mission. “We feel the event was a lovely success built on a strong foundation from 2016! We increased our tickets by 50% this year and still sold out a week in advance! The businesses really came together to offer guests an incredible evening and were able create relationships with new customers so it was a really wonderful night in Downtown Somerville,” said Beth Anne Macdonald, Executive Director of the Downtown Somerville Alliance. Here are some of the most talked about highlights from the evening.
Red Carpet Ready
Rolling out a red carpet at the beginning of the beautifully paved Division Street was an inviting first impression. All attendees were provided with a glam bag stocked with spring fashion and beauty accessories. The ladies then had the choice to secure their celebrity status for the night by posing for a quick photo shoot. And for those who really wanted to take in the downtown sights, they had their choice to roll in a stretch limo or gallivant on foot.
Manicures, Makeup and Mind Readings
From blowouts to body makeovers, trendy boutiques like Jade Salon offered an express styling session, Illustrated Beauty reserved happy hour blow-outs for only $25 (yes, that’s cheap) and Beneath It All gave a personalized fitting for finding the perfect bra. Fitness studios like Tatyanta’s Fitness, Freedom Yoga Studio and Studio Barre offered special class prices to new clients and complimentary chats about weight goals. And, if those amazing discounts weren’t enough to blow every gal pal’s mind, The Other Mentalist, entertainer Tom Kennedy, wowed the women with his accurate predictions and spellbinding magic tricks.
Local Artists’ Buzz
Three Hearts Home, an eclectic space of bath, home and all-natural products, hosted mini-workshops for the crafty woman. Here, groups created essential oil blends and skin-friendly bath salts. Gallery On Main featured handpicked photography, pottery and paintings from female artists. From The Hive, an online hub turned fan-obsessed honey spot offered complimentary tastings of the locally-grown sweetener.
Food For Every Palate
Guests certainly didn’t leave the party hungry. From Mexican meals to Italian cuisine to seafood dishes, female foodies had a plethora of gourmet choices. Local restaurant Division Cafe served up their famous empanadas, some even say they are the best in the state. Boulevard Seafood surprised patrons with 10% off their check and a divine “strawberries and champagne” cupcake from Blue Sheep Bake Shop was a great giveaway to conclude the celebration.
