The Best of: Dorset Avenue Street Fair

As the evening sky reflected in the bay below the Dorset Avenue Bridge, dozens of visitors and locals strolled along the Ventnor City streets during the Dorset Avenue Street Fair this past Wednesday night. Live music, local merchants, crafters and artists greeted onlookers as they walked between the bridge and Balfour Avenue.

In just three blocks, the street fair included a total of 29 vendors, 12 musicians and 22 merchants; all eagerly sharing their work and showing off their talents with the community. Amazing Ventnor, an organization that promotes Ventnor businesses throughout the year, put together the event for the second year running. The event’s purpose is to celebrate the recent improvements in the area for businesses and community members alike.

Listen While You Shop

Stopping between Annette’s Cafe and Ventnor Coffee, fair-goers experienced a small-scale concert with a main stage featuring local musicians. Amazing Ventnor built the “Mobile Band Stage” for the Craig Carey Band and the 2:15 band to use. Other musicians, including Visions of Indecision and The Gaskill Bratt, also set up their own performances along Dorset Avenue.

Along with music, food was also on the menu at the street fair as Red Room Cafe offered roasted pork sandwiches for hungry attendees. A Ventnor staple, Custard’s Last Stand welcomed visitors interested in a sweet treat as well. For coffee-loving adults, Ventnor Coffee offered a few of their new drinks; meanwhile, for the fun-loving kids, face painting was available right outside the coffee shop.

Other merchants also reached out to the community at the street fair including Rain Florist, a local flower shop that gave out free carnations to everyone passing by the store. These free flowers were a sweet way to remind fair-goers that Rain Florist is the perfect place to get a special gift for mom this Mother’s Day.

More to Look Forward to

They might not have been passing out flowers, but environmental organizations like the South Jersey Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation and the Atlantic County Utilities Authority set up their booths to promote environmentally friendly activities in the community. These organizations work actively to protect Ventnor’s coastal environment. They took time to share their mission with those interested in protecting and improving the environment as well.

Amazing Ventnor will host three more street fairs throughout this summer in response to the street fair’s success. For example, other events planned for Ventnor include beach concerts, sunset celebrations at Ski Beach, and Ventnor City Porch Fest.
