The Best of: Solexchange Sneaker Show

At exactly 12 o’clock Noon on Saturday, August 27, the doors of the Meadowlands Exposition Center opened to welcome sneaker fanatics to the summer’s Solexchange Sneaker Show. For two straight days last weekend, Secaucus was bouncing to the beats of hip hop and the countless fans, collectors and wearers of new and rare sneakers.

The 2,000-square-foot trading floor accommodated more than 300 vendors selling various items from shoes and apparel to accessories and art. While vendors offered their products and services at special rates, many also held giveaways periodically throughout the weekend, causing crowds of kids to stampede toward the booths.

Shoe vendors were scattered throughout the exposition center, offering a wide variety of popular brands like Air Jordan, Nike and Adidas. Some vendors even possessed their own unique products, like a brand based off the popular hip hop group Naughty By Nature.

Other stands offered hats and apparel featuring logos of popular sports teams and musicians. Exploring down the aisles, one could find basketball and football jerseys, jackets, shirts and much more. For art enthusiasts, the show even featured artists offering their own original film, sports, comic and music-themed pieces.

The main attraction of the event was the array of popular and rare sneakers offered at phenomenal prices; guests roamed around with enough stacks of shoe boxes to last them a lifetime. However, the Solexchange Sneaker Show wasn’t a one-trick pony; while attendees were elated to also get their hands on shoe-care products, apparel, collectibles and art, they were probably even happier to see the bill of celebrities in attendance over the weekend.

Brand Names, Big Acts

Saturday featured meet-and-greets with NBA legend and Slam Dunk champion Spud Webb; as well as music by HOT 97’s DJ Bobby Trends and a live performance by hip hop star Waka Flocka. Sunday was just as exciting, welcoming hip hop artist Lil’ Uzi Vert to the Solexchange stage; in addition to meet-and-greets with Naughty By Nature, Brand Nubian, and Onyx, too.

The Solexchange Sneaker Show was an eventful expo. For those who love collecting and discovering rare and top-brand sneakers, you won’t want to miss the convention’s return to New Jersey next year.
