Popular American actress Anne Hathaway was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 12, 1982. Her father, Gerald, is a lawyer, and her mother, Kathleen, was an actress who inspired her daughter to pursue a career in acting. Hathaway, her parents and her two brothers moved to Millburn when she was six-years-old.
She attended public school in the Garden State, where she excelled in the performing arts. She even became the first teenager to be accepted to The Barrow Group, a distinguished theater company in NYC.

Starting Out
Hathaway made her acting debut on the dramedy television series Get Real in 1999. Though the show only lasted one season, it still garnered Hathaway a Teen Choice Award nomination; in the category of Best Actress in a Drama for her role as Meghan, the family’s oldest daughter.
A year after the show ended, Hathaway earned the role of the quirky Mia Thermopolis in the 2001 film The Princess Diaries. The comedy was a hit with audiences, and Hathaway received another Teen Choice Award nomination for her starring role. In 2004, she returned for the sequel, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, and also starred in Ella Enchanted, a modern twist on the traditional Cinderella story.
From there, Anne Hathaway continued to star in a string of successful films, such as 2006’s The Devil Wears Prada, 2007’s Becoming Jane, 2008’s Get Smart, 2010’s Love & Other Drugs and two 2012 blockbuster hits in The Dark Knight Rises and Les Miserables, the latter of which earned Hathaway both a Golden Globe Award and Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Fantine. She also received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her role as Kym in the 2008 film Rachel Getting Married.
Through the years, Hathaway has shown her dynamic acting abilities, playing a wide array of roles across film and TV. From drama and science fiction films to comedies and action movies, Hathaway has done it all.
Outside of Acting
In addition to acting, Hathaway supports several charities, including the Step Up Women’s Network and the Lollipop Theater Network. On top of all this, she also makes time for her family.
Anne Hathaway married actor Adam Shulman on September 29, 2012, after the couple dated for four years. On March 24, 2016, Hathaway gave birth to their first child, Jonathan Rosebanks Shulman. The happy family currently resides in New York City.
