Qumi Pairs Pilates & Matcha in Maplewood

Walking into Qumi, a new Pilates studio and Matcha bar in Maplewood, feels relaxing, intimate, and warm. Whether you’re exercising on your own or taking a class, the goal is to help you feel strong and empowered. The studio offers dedicated Pilates spaces for members, in addition to a Matcha bar open to the public.

Picking the studio location was easy, as the owners live near Maplewood. “Last year, we accidentally stumbled on the Maplewood Village and adored how charming and beautiful the neighborhood was,” say owners Camilia Purino and Zephaniah Barte. “It felt like a Hallmark movie to us! So being in Maplewood makes us feel warm and brings us joy.”

Classes for Every Level

Reformer classes at Qumi have two levels. The Method is their beginner-friendly class, which is ideal for first-timers or anyone who needs a Pilates refresher. During this class, the instructor introduces the reformer, guides you through each movement, and provides any necessary modifications.

Camilia loves the mat classes in particular. “We have instructors who will put you to the test and work you out,” she says. “I find the challenge of the mat class a great way to push myself.”

Qumi sets itself apart from other studios with their community-oriented approach. “We’re intent on building relationships and community. Wherever you are in your fitness journey or in life, we want to be able to sit with you and be an ear if you need one,” Camilia explains. “We walk with you to get you to where you want to be in your Pilates journey.”

About Qumi

Camilia came from years of corporate accounting in search of something new. “I would find myself leaving for lunch to take Pilates classes and not wanting to go back to work!” After completing her instructor training, she quit her job to open Qumi.

Meanwhile, Zephaniah previously worked at a café. “I wanted to open a space for people to come together, build community, create, and enjoy their gifts,” she says. She used her barista skills to add a matcha bar in the lobby.

The owners want to Qumi to be a space for anyone. “Whether you need a matcha, a Pilates class, or an event space to rent for an intimate party, you know where we are.”
