The surge in popularity for activities such as parkour, plus agility and balance training is not slowing down. With the appetite for “ninja” training so strong, there are now facilities that offer specialized classes for all ages. Nex Level Ninja in Flemington provides Ninja Warrior classes, open gym time with obstacles, summer camp options, and more.
Nex Level Ninja is a 7,500-square foot space with warped walls, cannonball alleys, rock climbing, and more. It offers participants a place to build strength and learn fundamental ninja skills; such as hanging, swinging, lache, balance, agility, and core strength. “My favorite part of the job is sharing my love for the sport with kids of all ages!” says Joe Capo, Nex Level Ninja co-owner. Joe previously competed on season 11 of NBC’s American Ninja Warrior, and is currently filming season 14. “I enjoy helping kids improve their skills and strengths on the course; and helping them apply those lessons to their lives,” he says.

Nex Level Ninja Classes
The most popular classes at Nex Level Ninja are their recreational ones. “These classes are fun, structured, and curriculum-based classes,” says co-owner Abby Clark. (She has competed on seasons 9, 10, 11, and 13 of American Ninja Warrior, and is currently filming season 14.) During recreational classes, children 5 and over learn basic ninja warrior skills like falling safely, swinging, balance, and agility. These classes also build strength, including upper body, core, and grip strength, to complete obstacles. Click here to learn more about their recreational classes.
“Ninja classes are increasing in popularity because they are fun and supportive. It brings kids and adults to their ‘roots’ of playing on a jungle gym,” Abby says. In addition, ninja training offers benefits like improved confidence and body awareness, promotes sportsmanship, and increases physical and mental strength. “Ninja is a supportive community and allows kids to be active in a creative way, encouraging problem-solving skills,” she adds.

Other Activities
Meanwhile, Nex Level Ninja recently introduced beginner ninja skills competitions. At these events, ninjas of all abilities have unlimited attempts to test their skills on 15 given obstacle challenges; which range in difficulty from beginner to advanced. These competitions are a great way to assess a Ninja’s progress while getting comfortable in pressure situations. “Ninja classes and competitions are based on the ninja versus the course, instead of ninja versus ninja,” Joe explains. “This class allows kids to work together to accomplish a goal, instead of working against each other. Classes are high energy, with exciting and engaging coaches.”
Open gym time is also popular, according to Joe. Of course, this option gives kids and adults unstructured time to use the obstacles of their choice. Otherwise, Nex Level Ninja hosts a summer camp for ages 5+ and all ability levels. Plus, kids can have birthday parties here and enjoy trying out the obstacles.

The owners say they frequently change the obstacles in the gym to provide new and exciting challenges. In fact, they plan to build more sections of obstacles, allowing for more diverse training for kids of all abilities.
