It’s no secret that most people love cheese. At Main Street Cheese Company in Somerville, the community can experience unique artisanal flavors and connect with fellow cheese lovers. Besides selling cheese, the shop hosts pop-up events and private tastings, and curates custom catering orders as well.
Prior to opening Main Street Cheese Company, Co-creaters Jordan Nash and Noah Hunter got their start in farmers markets. They traveled around Somerville and Bedminster, even hosting events at clients’ homes and local restaurants. “When this lease came up for grabs, we jumped on it and turned it from a red and yellow hot dog stand to a gorgeous, gourmet cheese shop,” Jordan says.

The Cheesiest Spot Around
Jordan describes the space as “classy, cozy, warm, gourmet, welcoming and mid-century modern with vibrant products”. The space is mostly navy and white – their brand’s colors – with warm wood and pops of bright décor.
Main Street Cheese Company constantly rotates their selection of about 40 cheeses, and orders new products often. Jordan and Noah even take customer requests for flavors and brands. Their best-selling cheeses are Jasper Hill/Cabot’s Clothbound Cheddar and Nettle Meadow’s Kunik. They also sell a new cheese that’s hard to find: Boxcarr’s Rocket’s Robiola.

Their personal favorite is Alta Langa’s La Tur, which they fell in love with years ago while living in Brooklyn. Besides cheeses, they serve gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches and fresh soups from The Oldwick Soup Company.
Locally-sourced, Artisanal Cheeses
“We’re all about creating an experience that goes beyond just purchasing cheese,” Jordan explains. “When you shop with us, you’re not just getting mass-produced products off a shelf. You’re getting carefully-curated artisan cheeses, and accompaniments that are selected with passion and expertise.” In fact, they work directly with local farms and award-winning producers to provide cheeses unavailable at big-box stores.
Jordan and Noah also use their expertise to educate customers about perfect cheese pairings. For example, they can suggest a unique truffle nut mix, imported olives, or quality honey. “By choosing us over a bigger grocer, you’re supporting a local business that’s invested in our Somerville community,” Jordan says.
Previous events include cheese tastings, a charcuterie board workshop, and wine and cheese tastings. They also curate four sizes of cheese boards that include seasonal offerings and customers’ selections. Main Street Cheese Company offers to-go mini charcuterie boxes for lunch or dinner options. Currently, they hand-deliver orders for free within 30 minutes of Somerville.
