Lokal Cape May Micro Resort Provides Private Oasis

Summer at the Jersey Shore has a different meaning for everyone. Some savor the salty air and ocean breeze. Others enjoy the laughter of kids riding their bikes through town as visitors wander into shops, ice cream in hand. For Chad and Courtney Ludeman, owners of Lokal Cape May Micro Resort, it means a smooth escape into vacation mode.

Lokal Cape May is not a typical hotel. With just eight rooms, the micro resort provides an exclusive retreat. Each room offers a spacious kitchen, living area and dining space. Plus, every essential is provided in a clutter-free, organized way, creating a true home-away-from-home feel.

Leave Worries at the Door

“The vacation experience begins the moment guests arrive,” says Chad. Native grasses sway in the breeze, and lush plants decorate the porch. Clamshells crunch under tires in the parking lot, setting the tone for a relaxing stay.

Natural light floods the entrance, while the rooms are airy and bright with high ceilings and minimalist decor. Large glass doors connect each space to a private deck, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor transition.

Lokal Cape May reflects how Chad and his family love to travel. “We focused on helping guests pack light and worry less,” he says. They provide beach bags, chairs, toys, and games, along with wagons, coolers, and Yeti tumblers. “Couples can arrive with just a change of clothes, while families can leave bulky kids’ gear at home.”

Cool Off and Take a Dip

The standout feature of Lokal Cape May is actually behind the property, a 45-foot saltwater pool. This private retreat – surrounded by lush landscaping – includes a built-in drinking bench spanning its entire length.

The pool area features lounge chairs and umbrellas for 16 guests. In addition, overflow seating ensures that every guest has a spot to unwind by the water.

“We love a good hotel pool and always spend a full day by one when we travel,” says Chad. He believes pools are the heart of a vacation. Unlike most outdoor pools with shorter seasons, Lokal’s pool stays warmer for longer. They heat the pool up to 90 degrees so it can remain open for nearly three seasons. In fact, Lokal Cape May aims to be the first pool open and the last to close in Cape May. Weather permitting, the pool season runs from early April through early January.

Hospitality That’s Heard, Not Seen

Lokal offers “invisible service”, meaning there is no on-site staff during a guests’ stay. “People love their privacy,” Chad explains. “There’s no need for a lengthy check-in process or waiting at a front desk.” Instead, guests receive a pre-check-in survey, allowing Chad and team to assist with any trip details in advance.

“Texting with our staff makes concierge services easier, faster, and more natural than a traditional hotel,” Chad adds. “Our team lives locally and offers suggestions on where to go and what to do.”

Summer fills up fast, but Chad recommends spring as the best value. “The weather is great, and plenty of spots are still open. Relax in the room, chill out by the pool, or enjoy a quiet beach stroll.”
