Music and art often go hand in hand. For Andrea David, the Blues represents healing through dark times. Which is why her new business – the House of Blouezz in Jersey City – expresses this experience though artistic creations. The spot provides a safe space for those in search of a place to be their authentic self.
The name House of Blouezz comes from Andrea’s own sense of discovery and recreation. In particular, when she made up a new name for herself back in 2017, Aye Blouezz. Now, she wants to give others the same opportunity to visit a place where they can comfortably express themselves. Andrea – aka Aye Blouezz – is an independent curator, artist, and creative studio manager. She uses the 480-square ft space to curate art and merchandise, and host different pop ups and events.

About House of Blouezz
“I love having the opportunity to curate unique artistic experiences in intimate spaces,” Aye says. A Jersey City native, she was born and also spent half her life in town. So, the area was a fitting location for her business venture. “I’ve been wanting to have my own space for a while,” she says about the location. “I knew it would be the perfect place and time to open House of Blouezz.”
House of Blouezz is an art gallery and creative studio that can hold 50 to 60 guests. They also have limited seating in the hallway just outside the studio. The interior boasts hand-picked artwork of various talented artists from New York and New Jersey. Meanwhile, furniture pieces are all upcycled and revamped finds. The gallery currently curates two brands created and owned by Aye, ArtbyBlouezz and SkinbyBlouezz. However, she is open to representing and collaborating with other independent artists, spaces, and brands.

In addition, House of Blouezz hosts art exhibits, creative gatherings and parties, clothing pop ups, and paint and sips. It’s even available for kids and adults to learn art and take creative classes. “We created the vibe to be very cozy and versatile,” Aye says. “It’s crafty and thrifted, but in a modern elegant way.”
About Andrea David / Aye Blouezz
As a young artist, Aye found it difficult to find spaces that genuinely welcomed emerging artists. Specifically, people of color, people without accolades, people of the LGBTQIA+ community, people experiencing homelessness, and so on. Which is why, in 2018, she began hosting and curating her own showcases and events. These events allowed artists to express themselves through live performances, dance, spoken word, or art showcases.

Future plans for House of Blouezz are already in the works. “I want the space to be a creative haven for artists; to provide resources for them to get more connected in their industry and with their crafts,” Aye says. “I want the space to be a production studio for visual and music recording artists. I’d also like the space to be used as a production set for events, videos, films, etc.”
