For Alex Christopher – owner of Black Moon Piercing – tattoos, piercings, and body modification are both a fascination and a passion. He loves the idea of piercing and installing the most beautiful jewelry in his customers. To him, nothing is more fulfilling than giving someone the newfound sense of self-love a piercing can provide.
“My favorite part of my job has and always will be seeing how many people enjoy the studios that I have built from the ground up,” Alex says. That’s studios plural because Black Moon Piercing has three locations across Central Jersey in Edison, Hillsborough, and Green Brook. “They walk in and say, ‘Wow this is different than your typical shop.’”

Black Moon Piercing has “an upscale city vibe with sleek and modern décor,” according to Alex. The Edison location is the original, because it is where Alex is from. “I wanted to give back to the community that I was raised in,” he says. However, business soon took off, allowing him to open his “2.0” and “3.0” locations in Hillsborough and Green Brook, respectively.
Of course, Black Moon Piercing specializes in body piercings. In fact, they handle every body piercing, as well as kids’ ear piercings. “It is generally better to see a professional piercer for your child’s ear piercings; instead of a business that uses piercing guns, which are highly unsanitary and unsafe,” Alex cautions. In particular, Black Moon pays special mind to providing a safe, fun space for kids to get their first piercing. “We make it an interactive experience for our younger clientele. ‘Black Moon Kids’ we call them. We make them feel welcome. When the procedure is over, they get a bravery certificate.”
In addition to piercings, Black Moon curates a collection of quality, fine jewelry that is 100% disposable and sterile. Their selection includes implant grade titanium or 14kt gold, which are healthy and sanitary while also affordable. Alex also offers ear curations, where patrons book a consultation to see how jewelry will look on their ear. Using an iPad, Alex can photograph a client’s ear and provide a mockup of the finished product. “They can see exactly how it’s going to look in the end,” he explains. Click here for pricing details.
About the Owner
Alex is grateful his business allows him to be successful while doing what he loves every day. “Honestly, Black Moon Piercing is a dream come true,” he says. He credits his wife and daughter for pushing him to fulfill his goals. “My wife and I know the life we want to give my daughter,” he says. “We won’t take no for an answer when it comes to being the best of the best.”
