A new indoor, interactive gaming experience is available at the American Dream in East Rutherford. Activate features nine activity rooms and hundreds of ways to play. Each game room lets players tackle a number of difficulty levels and game variations.
Players sign up in groups as small as two or as large as five. Once inside, they can visit rooms in any order, and return to rooms as often as they like. (Activate offers both 30-minute and 50-minute play sessions.) Each room has a variety of game modes and difficulty levels, and players unlock harder challenges as they progress. As they compete, each individual player earns stars and tracks achievements via an electronic wristband.

A New Way to Play
“Activate – New Jersey is a fun and modern space that makes you feel like you are stepping into a video game,” says Bryce Anderson, co-owner of Activate. Games include the popular Grid, an interactive experience with 256 pressure-sensitive, color-changing tiles that challenge players to step on or avoid specific tiles to complete each round. Meanwhile, Mega Grid tests gamers’ thinking as they race to the right spot and freeze into statues when prompted.
One new activity for the American Dream location is Strike. During this series of challenges, players will have to accurately throw balls at 32 glowing displays. Game variants include a memory matching game, and Asteroids, where players hit incoming asteroids before they get too close.
American Dream is Activate’s flagship location for the northeast. “When considering how to launch in this region, we recognized that American Dream is an epic entertainment destination, says Bryce. “When the opportunity arose to work here, we jumped at it! We’ve loved bringing Acitavte to the east coast.”

Owners and Founders Adam and Megan Schmidt opened their first Activate location in 2019 in Canada. They’ve since partnered with a US franchisee to open locations in America. Currently, eight locations are in Canada and six are in the US. Activate plans to open another six locations in the United States and Canada in 2023.
