From the minute guests walk through the doors of A Peace of Om, they are immersed in a Zen state. A muted sage green interior evokes a calming environment, while candles and the studio layout foster a sense of togetherness. The new spot for yoga in Raritan offers classes for all skill levels.
“I want to give people the opportunity to connect with their physical bodies yet also foster a place for community for like-minded individuals,” says Gertrude Scocozza, Owner of A Peace of Om. The studio’s small and intimate style is suited to building one-on-one connections between students and instructors that is often missed at large yoga studios.

Yoga for All
While each class is geared towards a particular level and skillset, there’s no rule against a beginner taking a more advanced class. Gertrude is adept at meeting the needs of each student, ensuring experienced yogis feel challenged while novices receive adequate support.
“One common element I weave into all my classes—whether they’re active or passive— is the restorative mindset,” Gertrude says. “I always encourage students to come back to the breath and body connection, which is incredibly therapeutic.”

Currently, Gertrude leads most of the classes on the schedule. This includes the beginner-friendly Rise and Release as well as FlowYINg, suitable for all levels.
In addition, A Peace of Om occasionally offers various workshops and pop-ups led by other instructors.
After class, guests are welcome to pick from a selection of herbal teas at the complementary Ayurvedic Tea bar. Gertrude hopes stopping to enjoy a drink will help participants find balance and connection even when off the mat.
About The Owner
Gertrude Scocozza is a registered yoga teacher (RYT) with 500 hours of training. She first started practicing yoga over 13 years ago, initially drawn to it because of its impact on overall well-being. Besides traditional Vinyasa, Gertrude has specialized training in Kids Yoga, Chair Yoga, Yin, and Restorative Yoga. This vibrant background allows her to offer an expansive range of classes at her studio.

Although A Peace of Om is in its infantry, Gertrude has big dreams for it. She hopes it will become a welcoming environment for everyone who’s ever wanted to try yoga or continue their practice. The space is intended to be a home away from home; a place where people feel confident and comfortable in their wellness journey.
“Because I’m local to the area, it was important to me to have my studio in the community that I’m a part of,” Gertrude explains. “Raritan is close to so many towns, so we have the opportunity to brand out and reach lots of people. Many of my students are from Hillsborough, Branchburg and Somerville.”
