Jazz Musician Describes the Power of Music to Unite

Do you hear that sound? Music has the power to bring people together to share their sentiments and passions. It often helps ease stress and deal with hardship, if only for even a short while. Though all music can be powerful, some genres fluidly evoke emotions and sensations often vacant in a person’s life. One such genre is jazz, which has been a key piece in bringing listeners together for more than 100 years.

In this One-on-One with Steve Adubato, show host Steve Adubato, PhD, talks with jazz musician, Christian McBride; they discuss, among other things, his latest album, Bringin’ It. McBride also talks about the impact of the TD James Moody Jazz Festival at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.

How Music Brings People Together

An American jazz bassist and five-time Grammy award winner, McBride was born in Philadelphia and developed his musical skills at a very young age. By his early 20s, he had already played with a slew of distinguished jazz musicians, including Freddie Hubbard, Benny Golson and Milt Jackson. Today, McBride continues to astonish crowds with his dynamic abilities and encourages others to follow their passion as well. He explained that many artists today are using their music to inspire the country during these turbulent times, and it is natural.

“I think everyone has a calling in life,” said McBride. “There is something that they are innately drawn to. It’s not work for them, because they love what they’re doing.

McBride was just one of the major components of November’s TD James Moody Jazz Festival, so to learn more about him, the festival and the power of jazz, check out this segment of One-on-One with Steve Adubato.
