The Best New Jersey Bucket List for 2018

With 2018 just around the corner, it’s time to come up with some New Year’s resolutions. For many of us, that means becoming more adventurous. Luckily, New Jersey is the perfect state for folks who want to make a bucket list. From thrill rides to hiking trails, there are plenty of great ways to add a little excitement to your new year.

If you’re putting together your bucket list for 2018, be sure to include some of these great Garden State experiences. For those of us at Best of NJ, we’ll be doing our best to try these out for ourselves!

Hike to High Point Monument, the Highest Point in New Jersey


Where: High Point State Park, 1480 Route 23, Sussex
Details: The highest point in New Jersey is located in the northwest corner of Kittatinny Mountain. At 1,803 feet above sea level, the point is marked with a massive stone obelisk. This 220-foot tower is open to the public, allowing visitors to enjoy sweeping vistas of farms, hills and valleys in three states. High Point offers trails for both hikers and skiers, as well as quiet spots for campers and fishermen.

Re-Live History at Monmouth Battlefield State Park

Where: 16 Business Route 33, Manalapan
Details: This new year, explore the Monmouth Battlefield where hundreds of men died fighting for our Nation’s freedom. A small museum at the park teaches visitors about this pivotal battle, which resulted in a victory for George Washington and the Continental Army. To truly understand the battle, check out the park’s bucket list worthy battle reenactment, which takes place annually in June. Additional must-see destinations for history buffs include a stop in Weehawken, where the boulder Alexander Hamilton rested on after being shot can be viewed, or Princeton Cemetery where his nemesis, Aaron Burr, is buried.

Defy Gravity on the CYBORG Cyber Spin


Where: Six Flags Great Adventure
Details: The newest Six Flags attraction delivers an unrelenting and intense anti-gravity experience as it spins riders on three axes, seven stories above the ground. Inspired by the movement of a gyroscope, Cyborg Cyber Spin is the first thrill ride of its kind in North America. Named for the DC Superhero (who recently appeared in the Justice League film, portrayed by NJ native Ray Fisher), Cyborg provides riders with intense and continuous movement that includes unpredictable flips and pivots.

Visit Buttermilk Falls, NJ’s Tallest Waterfall

Where: Mountain Road, Walpack
Details: You don’t have to leave the state to find a beautiful waterfall. At over 200 feet, Buttermilk Falls is New Jersey’s tallest waterfall. The falls are located near a parking lot, so it doesn’t require a long hike to find them (although there are several trails nearby for hikers). We recommend climbing the stairs around the falls for stunning views.

Go Tubing on the Delaware River

Where: Delaware River Tubing, 778 Frenchtown Road, Milford
Details: Enjoy New Jersey river country with an exciting tubing trip on the Delaware River. Take in the wildlife and scenic views as you glide down the river’s calm waters and small rapids. During the trip, you can stop by the famous “River Hot Dog Man” for lunch.

Take in a Concert at the Stone Pony

Where: 913 Ocean Avenue, Asbury Park
Details: Known as the launch pad of such rock legends as Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi, the Stone Pony is the most notable music venue in New Jersey. Since 1973, local bands and performers have been taking the stage, entertaining thousands of fans. During the summer, the Stone Pony opens up its outdoor summer stage, welcoming bucket list worthy big acts. As an added bonus, one never knows when The Boss might make an impromptu appearance.
