With Halloween fast approaching, many NJ residents have begun decorating their homes in anticipation of costumed trick-or-treaters. Here at Best of NJ, we’ve teamed up with State Fair Seasons to come up with a Halloween contest to showcase the spookiest and silliest decorative displays in the state. We’re calling it “Things that make you go BOO” and the best part is, it will be up to readers to vote on and select the winners.
We want to celebrate the best-looking Halloween houses in NJ, and we need your help to find them. If you or someone in your town goes all-out with their decorations, snap a photo and send it in. The spookiest, or most creative, entries will be featured here on Best of NJ, and the Top 4 as voted on by readers will win gift certificates courtesy of State Fair Seasons. It’s time to vote on the contest winners! We’ve selected the Top 4 decoration displays so that readers can vote for the Grand Prize winner. We have 3 Runner-up prizes to give away — so everyone is actually a winner — now all that’s left to do is decide who takes home the Grand Prize. Here are the finalists:

Update #1: We’ve decided to expand our contest parameters to include all sorts of Halloween decorations. Homes aren’t the only places that get decorated for the holidays, and we’d like to let other places join in on the fun.
Teachers who like to decorate their classrooms for Halloween can submit their classroom designs this week. For the grand prize winner, a $200 gift card to State Fair Seasons goes a long way towards turning a classroom into the ultimate holiday showroom. Decorations can be purchased for Halloween, Christmas, and more!
Business storefronts are also eligible to participate. If you visit a restaurant or store that has decorations set up, snap a pic and send it in! You don’t have to make the decorations yourself, you just have to take a picture of a nearby storefront.
Rules:
1) Visit Best of NJ on Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest. If you haven’t already, “like” or follow us on the social media platform of your choice in order for your entry to be considered.
2) Send us the spookiest, or most creative, Halloween decoration displays you can find. Pictures can be taken of any house/classroom/business storefront you find, they do not have to be photos of your own decorations. Make sure the address or street name is not displayed in the photo.
3) Using the hashtag “#BestNJHalloween”, post a message on social media via Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest. Be sure to include the contest entry photo, the town name where the photo was taken, and mention the Best of NJ Halloween contest. Limit one entry per participant.
From October 13-28, we’ll be picking out the top photo submissions and updating this article with a list of finalists. Once we’ve determined the candidates, a poll will be created right here and it will be up to readers to vote for their favorite. (Be sure to support your favorite entry by sharing this article on social media and encouraging others to vote!) Voting will run through Halloween, and winners will be announced the following week.
Prizes:
One (1) Grand Prize winner will receive a $200 gift card to the State Fair Seasons Superstore, while three (3) Runner-ups will each receive a $50 gift card. According to State Fair Seasons, “Each gift certificate is valid through September 30, 2016 allowing the winners to use them during any of our three seasons – Halloween, Christmas and Pool & Patio.” The gift certificates can be used to shop both online and in-store.
