Peloton Instructor Discusses Benefits of At-Home Exercise

At-home exercise is more popular than ever. Of course, fitness is great for keeping you slim; but working out has other health benefits. It helps lower blood pressure, reduces stress, and releases chemicals that boost your mood. Most important in 2020, however, is that it can strengthen your immune system’s defense against viruses.

The classic at-home fitness experience often includes staples such as treadmills and stationary bikes. These boost cardio and provide as high or as low of an impact workout as you prefer. But unlike the classic bikes and treadmills of years’ past, modern equipment is much more advanced. For instance, Peloton bikes are changing the way people work out at home.

How Peloton Helps Improve At-Home Exercise

On this episode of One-on-One with Steve Adubato, Peloton instructor Jenn Sherman talks about her original Peloton rides. During her chat with Adubato, the two also discuss Howard Stern, Bruce Springsteen, and why exercise is so important now; to improve not only physical health, but mental health as well.

Eight years ago, Peloton began developing technology to improve our standard equipment. Their goal was to bring challenging workouts right into people’s homes. To do so, they created treadmills and bikes with built-in tablets. These tablets let you watch recorded workouts, as well as participate in live sessions alongside others. This allows you to engage with fitness classes whenever and wherever you like in your home.

In particular, Sherman uses a curated playlist of her favorite songs and artists in each of her sessions. She says music is critical in a cycling workout, helping to create a truly immersive experience.

“The music and the playlist is a journey, and it’s a story, and it’s really important to me, and I’m a psychopath about it, and I take it really seriously [laughs],” Sherman says. “Every playlist to me is like a creation. It’s my way to express myself, and it’s a way to take you and my loyal riders on a journey. It’s an escape—it’s always been an escape. But in the last six months, we’ve all needed this escape more than ever.”
